I originally wanted an early 90s CBR400 because they look great and of course it's a honda.....reliable etc. But now a nice lookin kawasaki zxr400 in blue has come my way and I'm in need of help....fast.....otherwise I'll lose the kwak.
How reliable are kawasakis compared to hondas, and is the cbr really much much more of an easy/smooth ride.

Any help is much appreciated.

You can't generalise. A well-maintained Kawasaki is more reliable than a knackered Honda.

Just buy the one you fancy.

ok, fair enough, but if they're both well maintained, then hondas are usually better. I more concerened about handling, though. I've heard that kwaks aren't so good on corners. How true is that?

Id say that both are really good round corners. If you are a new rider it wouldn’t matter so much because it would take you a while to find either of the bikes limits. If ever...

Hondas are generally know for their reliability, but a decent condition kawa should not give you too many problems if it’s treated right.

Stuff always goes wrong with bikes (in general) anyway. Its the way they are...

Really depends on your level of experiance and what your planing on doing with it...

The honda will be (should be) relyable and comfy easy to live with but powerfull enough.

The kwak unless your used to it can scare the liveing **** out of you, (but then try takeing a sharp bend on mine @70 and thats pritty goddam scarey too) they are ace bikes but not the sort of thing to gentley build up experiance. It would defenately take the fun out of learning imo.

If its your first "big" bike the honda would probably be more sensible. Ive had a brief go on the zxr and was waiting for it to bite my head off at any moment, ive been rideing two years. I'd no doubt get used to it but the kungfu death grip on the bars would get difficult to loosten off after a ride.

As bendy says the serviceing and care the previous rider gave/didn't will make allot more difference than the brand... but certain bikes get thrashed (small high reving sports bikes) and certain ones dont (commuters e.t.c. unless ex-courrier!)

I'd suggest that whoever told you that, either can't ride a bike to save their lives, or has a boogered bike..

ZXR is the best handling bike I've ever ridden... (I've not ridden /that/ many though Laughing)

Crying or Very sad I miss that old ZXR Crying or Very sad

You can generalise Razz If both bikes were treated the same.. and had an identical life, the Honda would have broken down less, have less corrosion and generally be in better condition.

I agree, Honda's are more reliable, the kwakka doesn't seem to corrode much though, mine always cleaned up nice etc.. but it broke down a lot Wink always cheap to fix though whereas the nc30 can be quite expensive to repair sometimes

Give an example of how an nc30 is expensive to repair? (Original thread was about a cbr but who cares, we know they're inferior Wink)

From my experience (though I don't go around crashing Razz) there's a good, cheap second-hand market for parts.

Sorry I thought the thread was about NC30, my mistake.. and I meant expensive for service compared to ZXR, plugs are considerably more expensive etc..

well I am quite a new rider and this is going to be my first big bike. I need something that's easy(ish) to learn on and pretty comfy. I'm not gonna be pushing the bike to it's limits (not yet anyway!! Wink )

If ridden semi-sensibly you think the kawasaki's ok?

There's nothing wrong with the Kawasaki..........! It will teach you a lot and is a very decent bike.

I'd say go for the VFR everytime the engine is so good. I had one and loved it the worst thing i did was sell it to buy a ZX6.
They pull well through the entire rev range unlike the inline fours so they will always have drive out of corners,as the engine is so flexible it makes it easier to ride fast. I also preferred the handling of the NC30 as it always felt stable never nervous like some 400's,the V four also sound loads better imo.

I especially want the zx4r bit, but I want the same bike in green. Have you seen the one on ebay in zx7r colours, that is a sweet bike.

BTW, go for the zxr!

There is going to be very little in it.

Are Hondas that reliable? Check this weeks MCN where they thrashed a Blade, a Ducati 999 and a Triumph Daytona all day. The Blade landed up with 8 bent exhaust valves (although it still ran OK).

All the best

I'd suggest getting a test ride on both of them and making your decision based on that and the facts about each individual bike. As said above, a well maintained Kawasaki is lots better than a badly maintained Honda, so just judge each one on how it actually is as that's what actually matters.

She'll be glad she chose the Kwak when it comes to major service time. Much more accessable engine than the Honda.

Thumbs Up Good choice
