I recently changed the oil and sparkplug on a Suzuki dr 125 sm, the manual advises to clean the air filter with an air gun but it looked clean so I put it back. However I also don't have an air gun.

The bikes only done 7000 miles. Shall I take it down to a garage and ask to use their air gun?

Nope, I wouldn't take it to a garage. It looks clean enough to me and if the engine runs alright, then there is no point in fidling with it. But just for the piece of mind, check how much a new air filter would cost and if it's cheap, change it. By the looks of the filter, the motorcycle is meant to do some miles in dirt, dust and mud, that would explain the cleaning you were reading in the manual about. But if you only ride it on paved roads, then there's no way it would get so filthy, that the filter would need cleaning every 7k miles.

Thanks, it's good to have a second opinion - the engine seems to be running fine so I'll leave it alone.

Unfortunately the only new price I could find is close to £30 including delivery on ebay.

As advised. The filter look pristine.

The new filter will be so expensive because they platinum coat that wire safety mesh.
Then they remove the platinum before they sell it to you. Smile

No idea why they charge so much for a filter. Smile

If it makes you happy you can get a can of compressed air quite cheap from a lot of DIY places and give it a squirt over.

Poundland do small cans that would be enough to clean that.
