Just asking here for any advice, as I don't want to get insuraped.

When I bought my current bike (er6f) I hadn't passed my test at the time and there was only one company willing to insure me. At the time they would only offer me TPO too.

Now that I have passed my tests, I am wanting to insure it fully comp.

What are my best options for doing this?

Will I get penalised in any way, as I would in effect be cancelling my current policy?

I've been on some comparison sites and found a F.C. deal for little more than I paid TPO. So should I cancel my current policy and go with them or would it be worth speaking to my current insurer first in the remote possibility that they'd (don't laugh now) let me pay the extra amount to 'boost' my current TPO policy to FC.

Basically, what are my best options?

I tried to change my policy from TPO to TPFT and my provider said I can't change it like that. Luckily I only had to wait 6 weeks for my policy to end.

Have you been in touch and told them about your pass?

I'd give them a call to see what they say. Although insurance companies are fucking leeches and will suck you dry anyway.

Counterpoint, I have upgraded a car policy from TPFT to FC, when swapping to a newer car. It didn't cost as much as I'd feared.

Probably worthwhile speaking to your current broker first. You'll need to know how much (if any) you'll get refunded from your current policy (or how much extra you'll get charged...) if you cancel it. Bear in mind that you'll be throwing away some partial NCB.

I didn't think you could earn NCB on a TPO policy?

What? I don't even? Rolling Eyes

Some underwriters won't accept the change of risk, therefore possibly WON'T insure you. Best advice, get brand new quotes, then compare to whatever your current insurer will offer you as an upgrade. Your current broker, will offer two options, upgrade or brand new policy. Depending on the policy underwriters, hence go to comparison sites first.

I've had some quotes from comparison sites and the cheapest was just under £500.

I'll phone my current insurers and see what they say. I was more worried about cancelling the current policy, in case it increases my future insurance quotes but, I'm guessing that only happens if they cancel a policy?

The question is usually if you've HAD your insurance canceled.

Otherwise that would be totally unfair, not that insurance is ever fair!

IMO You should also ask about moving from TPO to TP, F&T. Rather than just going straight to FC unless there's a specific reason.
That's not to say they won't offer you a better 'deal' for FC but don't just ignore TPF&T as an option.

I'm after FC for peace of mind tbh. My finances are currently near zero after losing my job and everything else a couple of years ago. I'm currently renovating my new home and need my bike to get to work. So should anything happen to the bike, I'd be stuffed, as I'd have no cash to repair it and no bike to get to work.

Everything is possible in the Whacky World of Insurance.
They will most probably charge a mid-term-change 30-50+ depending on how brutal they are.

You are supposed to inform the broker/insurer of any changes. What that means is up to them. So you cold call/email and ask.

On a side note, my ER6-F has been almost the cheapest bikes I've insured, that includes a 125.

Not for me unfortunately.

When I was in the IoM my R125 cost £120 F C. on a provisional licence. In the UK it's just under £500 for the ER6f F.C on a full licence. Sad
