On the weekend I lost power to my clocks on my Bandit (600 "nakkid")

So removed the two triangle trim panels to see if i could spot the issue an dont know if its the same on all Bandits but all of the little looms/ connectors are all just sat behind the headstock and are manky...

With the bike not having fairings what's to stop all the wiring getting soaked?

My bike is a P reg so no doubt people have fucked about with the wiring over the years, well judging by the black electrical tape an chocolate block connectors anyways..

Did you mean headlight?
On my Bandit the majority of wiring connectors are in the headlight.

Someone had run oxford heated grips which they had placed connectors behind the little panels below the tank though.

Nope headlight on mine was empty except for the headlight bulb holder thing, pilot bulb an little bit of wire from/ to indicators.

Everything else was stuffed under the tank/ behind the infill panels

Im guessing this isnt correct then??

If I had to guess, some dipshit had trouble fitting the wiring back in and screwing the headlight on. (took me some trouble when I rewired and didn't take a photo beforehand)

Even shit scootehys, 125s, and the 500 I had all had the wiring connectors in the headlight.

Explains why the headlight bulb wiring was still in there, it can't reach further.

Which connectors are you talking about? On mine the yellow, green, 2x blue, and black connectors are all kept nicely under the tank. Are you sure all of those are meant to be in the headlight?

Fair do, in that case relevant info time...

Which year Bandits are we all talking about?
Mine is a '95 (I only understand year models not letter Reg) and the only wiring under the tank was for Oxford grips running to the battery.

Mines a 2000 reg, wiring is slightly different according to Mr haynes. Does the wiring from your switchgear go into headlight casing too?

Just a thought - is your Bandit really a naked, or was it faired and has had them removed? If the latter is the case, then the wiring was probably too long to stuff into the headlight. Does it have the original headlight, come to that?

Not sure if your asking me, but mine has always been naked. Recently replaced the loom with an unmolested one. Not sure if this is how it was standard, the 20+ previous owners have changed a few bits lol

This is the inside of my 1989 Bandit headlight:-

It's pretty much as it should be apart from the missing grommets and the shit choc connectors.

There's a big ground junction in the bandit loom. When people remove the headlight to fit those stoopid looking bates spots there's not enough room for the loom inside them so they do the same and jumble the wires up somewhere. This lets the weather into the loom and the ground junction rots away until you start getting all sorts of electrical failures. First to go is the dash lights normally.

Cheers all, mine is a P reg (1996?) so would/ should be the same as Commuter_Tim's?

Its possible that the bike was faired at some point but wasnt when i got it.

The fairings (on the tail) say Bandit N. The frame is bright blue if that helps?

Mine still has the mahoosive round headlight with the 3 access holes in the back. Always thought it was a little weird being so big an empty in there

Didnt get a chance to fiddle with the wiring last night but plan to tonight

They appear even longer when you're trying to coil them up around the inside of the headlight without anything pinching or crushing! Wink

If you don't have any luck I'll nip out tomorrow and take a photo of mine.
It's a Bandit 600N too, so I don't imagine the wiring will differ.

Kind of confusing reply, but as Mr Pete says, if it says 600N on its arse, then it's a naked, or someone put the rear cowl of a naked on it.
Anyway, here's a shit potato phone picture of mine that fits...
Excuse the little white Choc-blocks, I didn't butcher the cables, just not got round to resoldering yet.
Probably not the most conventional of cable routing, but it all works and closes up nicely.

huzahh!

Got it all back in the bowl, there is still a connector under the tank, but it looks a lot different to all the others so presume its suppose to be there

Cheers Tim, that help, i have put mine as a basic loop around the headlight bulb too

I now have the added advantage of working clock lights too - its a bingo! Thumbs Up

Tim, what's going on with the RHF (nearside) headlight mounting? It looks like it's about to fail.

Good eye.
The bolt/nut were cross threaded and mashed on super tight when I bought it, which seemed like it deformed the white plastic washer and rubber bung.
That was the least of my worries, before the choc blocks, it appeared the previous owner had his pet hamster chew on the wires before he wrapped the cable running to heated grips around them.
