Hi all
I have recently bought a 2010 Gladius with 16k on the clock and lots of Service History.
I bought the Bike off a riding School and they have just had it fully serviced.
The person also told me that the Bike has had a new Clutch around 1 Year ago.
I have however noticed that at quick accelerations on the Motorway is the Clutch slipping.
Today the problem has gotten worse to an extent whereby I have on numerous occasion had the Bike in Neutral but unable to shift into first or second Gear.
There have also been occasions where I tried to change Gear but the Gear indicator just went blank and when releasing and pulling the Gear lever again does the Bike then pickup the Gear and then eventually goes into Gear.
The Bike is not been booked into a Motorbike Garage on Monday but I thought of asking you guys for some advice first to save myself some time and money.
I personally believe that the Clutch Cable is on it's way out and doubt that it would need any replacement parts on the Clutch as its only been replaced a year ago.
Thanks for any advice and help.....much appreciated ! ____________________ Smile even if your Heart is bleeding |

If you've booked it in, despite you writing "is not" for some reason, then you might as well wait and pick up the bill rather than having us chase our own tails for no reason. Someone could probably guess, and be accurate, as to what to check but given your first port of call was to phone the garage are you really going to act on advice, are you mechanically minded enough to do so?
Truth is you've purchased the bike from a training school and therefore as subject to use of a product that has been well and truly abused day in day out for every mile of it's life, the clutch, by people of whom have limited idea of what they're doing. I'd say it's not safe to assume that the clutch is in good condition. Not a scare factor more of something you should have put into the buying consideration upon viewing.
Here's your service manual should you need it:

wow !
Thank you for all your responses....i was amazed to see so many replies in such short time.
And yes sorry but I was meant to write that the Bike has been booked in on Monday for a Check on the Clutch which is free of charge and I thought of asking here first in case someone could of given me a guaranteed solution as your all experienced with Bikes.
Your answers made a lot of sense and I should have known better that the Bike was ridden by mainly newbies so the Clutch must have therefore gotten a good regular beating.
Nevertheless, I will keep you all posted on the findings of the Garage along with a possible solution and outcome.
Thank again ____________________ Smile even if your Heart is bleeding |

If you suspect the clutch cable is 'on its way out', check it and know for sure. You don't have to guess. You can take a look at it. Is it adjusted to near its limit of tightness near the clutch and at the adjuster on the handlebar? Pull back the rubber and look for fraying strands. If you have fraying strands, don't ride it at all - just swap the cable.
It sounds as if what training school meant was, they swapped the plates about a year ago. Not swapped the whole clutch. I believe they would have slapped Ebay specials rather than Suzuki parts in there, which isn't too bad but, obviously, less is expected of them. My guess is, even though you probably haven't adjusted your clutch cable properly, the clutch cable probably isn't the problem. It's more likely that those plates are already worn out. Learners give them a really hard time.
You booked your bike in at the garage? Then there's no point consulting over here. It's just a slipping clutch, and they can fix it. This sort of thing happens all the time with training schools' bikes. You haven't booked your bike in at the garage? Then dump your oil, remove clutch cover and inspect the plates for signs of wear. And measure your clutch springs to ensure they are within tolerance, while you're at it.
If this info helps, I'd appreciate it if you don't overtake me on the inside of my own lane showing off to your mates while I'm riding as you familiarise yourself with first big bikey. Thanks. ____________________ Safety in numbers

wow thanks for your response.....yes that is definitely a possibility and I will check my Cable now first to see if there is any damage to it.
The reason why I posted on here was as I thought someone would have confirmed with me that from the sounds of it is it 100% the cable and I would have then went ahead and ordered one online.
But anyway...thank you again for all your responses.
I posted the same on a different Forum some days ago and never gotten any responses but now know where to get any help form should I need it.
Thanks to everyone who responded.
Peace ! ____________________ Smile even if your Heart is bleeding |

16K miles and needing a third set of clutch plates?
When your spanner monkey goes in there, you'll want to ask them to look out for a broken or missing spring or something else that explains why it's eaten through the 2nd set so fast. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
