Hi all and thanks for any help!

Front wheel is removed to inspect front drum brake. I can't remove the caliper shoe housing from the drum! Any tricks?

The brakes are not seized. The drum spins around the shoes...

I suspect the drum has a groove worn in it and the shoes are binding on it.

Thanks!

Almost certainly a wear ridge in the drum preventing the backplate/shoes assembly from being withdrawn. First thing to check is that the lever has not seized in any way; that would prevent the operating cam returning to the 'neutral' position. If that is OK, then all you can do is to carefully try to withdraw the assembly BUT - no force or this will lock it up. Try rotating the backplate assembly while gently pulling it out as SQUARELY as possible a bit at a time.

You often need to apply the brake very slightly to get it out. When totally released, they sometimes cam back out again the wrong way (the cam doesn't necessarily land up square bewteen the shoes at rest.)

Try wiggling the calliper lever as you pull and make sure you pull dead square.

Did you manage to get the spacer out? If that's stuck, it's possible it could have corroded to the inner bearing race.

I did a howto on servicing a honda drum brake. It's an H100 rear rather than a CG front but they are very similar, pics are sometimes helpful.
