Popped out down to halfords to get another "L" plate after i lost the other one a few days ago up brecon.
Had a nice little drive down the a470 and looking foward to a blast through aberdare and over the mountains on the way back, so i decided to fill up on petrol.
Pulling away i decided to pull up and check my bike (kiss of fate !), something i never do.
Looked it over and noticed a hairline crack on the exhaust, nothing much i thought, must have just opened up, nothing a bit of welding wont sort out.
Well i decided to take it easy and go back home,When.....
The exhaust sound got louder and louder !
Pulled over straight away and found out the slight hairline crack had bloody opened right up !
The end can has just being held on by a little bit of metal ; Had to snap it off just incase it came off when riding.
Left it in a bush and rode noisly home to get the car to pick up the the rest of the exhaust.

And thats when i found my puppy out back with my new chewed up "L" plate on the floor ! Neutral Shocked Sad

Gotta laugh at days like this ! Laughing

BTW photo is from before the respray. There is an arrow pointing to the bit where it snapped off by !
Can it be welded back on with a sleeve over the top ?

Whoo hoo ! Thumbs Up
Local Engneering firm welded the two parts back together for £20.
Save's buying a new one or a second hand one. Smile
Bloke i bought the bike off said that the exhaust which broke is a replacement one for the one he had before which snapped in the same place ! Shocked

Bad design or what ! Thumbs Down

Is there any after market hangers on the market which can take the weight off the back end of the exhaust ? Question
Please let me know as i dont fancy going through this all again !

The same happened to me - a small split at the bracket of my can, by 2 days later the whole can fell off the bracket leaving the whole exhaust only being supported at the port. Nothing a bit of wire didn't fix.

I would make a small bracket that sticks out from just under the plastic alongside the end-can from a bit of thin flatbar or alloy (not sure how, I would need to look at the subframe) then attach the end-can to it using a sidestand spring by means of a small hole drilled in the flange that is sticking out round the round edge of the can.

That should give some support but prevent the exhaust vibrating itself to bits against a solid clamp. The race exhaust my old 350 powervalve had was held on entirely by springs.

Never done it like, but looking at your piccy, that is how I would do it.

Make sure you paint the weld quickly if you haven't already done so. A tip I was given for welded zorsts is to clean the weld with a wire brush, heat it until very hot with a blowlamp then run some plumbers solder over it with plenty of flux. This covers the weld in solder and prevents corrosion.

Cheers for that info Thumbs Up I'll get that bit covered up tomorrow.
What i found that the end can usely works loose on my bike even though its been pop riveted back on a couple of time; got a big old screw in there as well now !
(The reason for the pop rivets is when i replaced the baffles)

When i put the exhaust back on after the guy welded it i noticed he put the back end on at a tighter angle to the bike, making it look alot better !....... Me thinks "bit more pipe, and i'll have an under seat exhaust Wink " Thumbs Up
