i have a 93 Suzuki RF 600. the bike runs fine and smooth, however on start up and idling there is a knocking noise coming somewhere from the engine, there only other time it sounds like it is when you nearly stall the bike and the revs drop!....

The other issue is when i pull up at lights the revs stay at 2k for about 10 seconds before returning to its normal (about 1300)

I must admit i have cocked about with the idle screw!

The bike has had new filters all round and new oil

Any suggestions welcome!

Cheers Very Happy

Sounds like the carbs are out of balance.

i am not mechanically minded... is this an expensive job if i took it to the local bike shop??

Just had the sparks changed as well and they where in crap condition, was gonna run it for a few hundred miles and check them again... i think it was running rich, again would this be the carbs??

Very Happy

Does the noise change if you pull the clutch in?

What about if you put it in gear, obviously with the clutch in?

And finally, Slowly release the clutch without increasing the revs, any change?

Does sound like backlash from badly balanced / set carbs but it doesn't hurt to check.

The bike has just turned 30, 000 miles, when riding the bike everything is good, i have just been to the local bike shop who had a look at it and agreed it was up and down on the idle... funnily though he said a new air filter can sometimes upset the bike, but he did say the first thing he would look at was the carb balance, so gonna take it in tomorrow and see what happens!

cheers for the right direction Thumbs Up

Wow, 10 year old thread revived.

Balance the carbs, it's the usual cause of clutch knocking.
