Evening gents.

I ride a Deauville as a daily commuter and was recently thinking about getting rid of that and getting a BMW F800ST which i could use as a commuter but also have a bit more fun on. I've now decided that I'll just keep the Deau for the commute and get a second bike purely just for fun and the Street Triple looks like it could fit the bill perfectly as a weekend toy.

I love the earlier Triples with the round headlights but have noticed some of the earlier bikes going for more money than the later models, are the later bikes any worse or is it just the fact that the earlier ones are more popular due to their looks?

You could always get a modern model and do a headlamp conversion, there's some pretty amazing bargains floating about at the moment and probably more to come as the new model is on the way... also I got the newer headlights and really after awhile they do grow on you and I don't even notice them anymore, you can't really see them whilst sitting on the bike...

Is there any performance difference or is it just cosmetic between the two models?

I've had both a 2007 Street and 2014 Street R. Have to say I prefer the newer one but you wont go wrong with either.

Not much, older model slightly higher hp (107 vs 105 I think) newer model lighter (new chassis) balances out. Older model has dual pipes under seat, great in winter warm in summer, newer single low pipe. Older model short first gear newer model longer first, more city friendly.

Again you can get a number of mods though... getting a quickshifter fitted soon, cos the demo bike I had was one of the best times I've had with my clothes on 😁

Love mine to bits, it's the perfect bike for me. I wanted the R version as I liked the matte grey paint finish. I also like the fact it has fully adjustable suspension; I plan to have it set up for my weight in the new year. I would highly recommend one. It's easy to ride, great fun and ohhh! The induction noise! Twisted Evil

Older ones you can pick up for free if you have a set of hands, just tug some wires.

I love mine, 2010 model. Erm, I'd probably get one with an alarm or something though.

Apparently the earlier model is very easy to steal and the scum know it, so nick them.

I still hanker after one, but will see what next year brings. I really dont have time to ride so while I want one, its a bit of a large extravagance.

I've set aside £5k to spend (maybe more if something special crops up) so a newisn model isn't out of the question, I'd be looking to get a ground anchor to fix it to the floor and a lot seem to have alarms fitted too.

This bike is gonna be a bit of a treat for me, I've had a very good year at work and have got some spare cash to throw at fun stuff, hopefully I'll be able to grab a no P/X winter bargain.

Between kids and work, there is no escape.

I really want one for sunny days as I already have a commuter (and it's too much of a hassle riding a ST into Lomdon with all the average speed cameras).

Pricing seems very strong though, £4k is the cheapest non damaged/ cat write off bike I can find. Are prices likely to drop with the new model? My budget is £3k.

I had a non R before and know that a R is what I really wanted.

Rightly or wrongly certain Triumphs all seem to hold their value pretty well. I would certainly wait and see what happens after the release of the new model and what second hand values do then.

So is the only difference between the standard model and the R just the suspension, or are the bars different too?

Radial calipers on the R (and very good they are too). Don't think anything else?

I believe the rear ride height is taller on the R? Or am I imagining it? I.e the steering angle is different on the R

There's definitely more pressure on the wrists with the R version.
Maybe it's the geometry, seat to bar height or maybe because the rear shock is firmer but there is a difference somewhere that makes things less comfortable, for me anyway.

I think the rear shock is ever so slightly lower giving a more nose down feeling.

Went to look at a vfr today and then saw this....

And i absolutely love it, BUT, as it's an older model than some of the ones being mentioned are they still as good ? A newer one is out of the question as the £3k mark is top of my budget

I dont get how a 2003 VFR with 41000 on the clock is £2495 and this is £3095?

My riding is my commute down the a19 on a weekday and then out on the weekends generally practicing !!

Is it to much for someone who has 1yrs (ish) experience ?

That is, quoting the obvious, a SPEED triple.

Having ridden both the street and speed (and owned a street R) I would compare them in the car world to a yank muscle car and a Ferrari. No prizes for guessing which is which.

I liked riding the speed but I bet a pound to a pinch of shit 90% of riders will be faster and more confident on the Street. It is a far better overall bike.

When I rode the last of the outgoing round headlight model Speed, I absolutely loved it. So much so I was within scratching distance of buying it. The engine just had so much character. In fact I bought my old Sprint as a direct consequence.

If the Street is better, and I wouldn't know as I've never ridden one, then it'd be an absolute riot.

As with everything it's horses for courses.

I have a friend who is on his third ZRX and is already looking for a very low mileage example for his next bike, cost no object. I rode his and disliked it intensely. It had, as far as I was concerned, the handling of an 80's bike dressed up as more modern.

I like the old V Max. Evil handling thing that it is.

The street is just so easy to ride, and ride quickly.
