I know I need to hand in my man card, but I'm stumped.

Any ideas how to change the bulb on these types of recessed halogen lights?

White plate doesn't seem to twist off, and the rest of the assembly is up in the ceiling and won't fit through the hole.

So the front plate pops off? I didn't want to hang off it as I didn't want to bugger the fixture or make a big hole in my ceiling.

Usually held into the ceiling by spring clips. You'll need to lever under the bezel evenly to pop it out. The effort required will be determined by the size of the hole. If it's on the small size it'll be a twat. Once you drop the unit it down on it's wires all will become clear.

If its an IP rated one (bathroom?) then the bezel will twist off with the lamp held into it. If you give it a straight pull down the whole fitting will pull down as mentioned above but will probably take some of the ceiling plaster with it.

Try pressing your flat palm on it and twisting anti clockwise rather than trying to grip with your finger tips.

Not clear from the pic if there is glass over the end of the fitting or just the face of the bulb itself.

If it's the bulb itself, you just need a sucker thingy.

pull down slightly on the "white" ring an unscrew it. the bulb will more than likely be held within this white bit/ lens

replace bulb an refit in reverse

Thumbs Up

This.

That metal round collar should rotate and unscrew off and then you can get at the LAMP behind it.

If won't - tap the metal ring gently with something to get the thread moving.

Our bathroom ones you literally just pull out of the ceiling. Get your nails between the fitting and the ceiling and start to pull, the clips begin to compress and it pops down.

Our porch ones are like others have said and have cir-clip holding the lamp in place, remove and the lamp drops out.

My kitchen ones (LED in a halogen type fiitting) you just twist the bulb itself to unclip it from the light unit, reverse the process to insert a new one. They're a sort-of bayonet fitting.

Other halogen bulbs just fit via pins and can be pulled out.

As people have said, there may just be a spring clip holding the light unit into the recess - stick a credit card or something under each side and pull down - see if there's any give.
