I have a 2001, I have used it to commute and dick about on for the past 8 years. Used bike prices are taking the pee pee a bit recently, I paid £2000 8 years ago .
As for things to go wrong, in the time I've owned it relatively little (not including consumables (tyres, chain, sprockets, plugs, filters, pads, fluids)):
#I fitted a new speed sensor (£30 ish used), the speedo would take about 10 mins to kick in.
#I fitted CCTs - they rattle like mad at about 5 krpm, new CCT and gasket is about £70. An OEM auto will probably last about 20k before borking again.
#My radiator rotted out on one of the side tanks - had it welded up (£50).
#The mild steel downpipes rot. Do yourself a favour and find a bike with stainless to save yourself the hassle of the studs snapping. If you do decide to DIY, I can heartily recommend motad downpipes (£300 ish). The chinese specials made the bike run funny, deadspot at 5k.
#The indicator switch gets gummed up and needs cleaning out, I'm yet to find a grease that does the job properly so I've had to do this a few times. No grease is on the crunchy side.
#Some rusty fasteners here and there but nothing major - I washed it in 2013, then again some time in summer last year.
I think that is pretty much it other than my shock feeling a bit tired and the front suspension being undersprung for most people. Never had any of the electrical issues with reg/rec people bang on about, never failed an mot.
I'd buy another without question. |

Have you ridden an RR or an R6? A colleague recently chopped in his RR for a CBR600F because of the more comfortable seat and riding position. He reckons it's effectively as fast (i.e. quicker than anything else) on public roads up to license-losing speeds. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Ah, neat. If you enjoyed the Gixxer then you should be OK on the RR or R6. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I had a f sport as my first proper bike (oh to be 17 again!).
only issue in 20k miles was me blowing the engine up because of complete lack of servicing (i couldn't be any further opposite to that now, the triple got a service after riding it home and the k6 has had 3 services in 5k miles )
anyway, I paid 3400 I think January 2006 for a 52 plate and sold it with 34k ish in 2008 for about 2400 which was pretty shagged. bike prices take the piss recently.
only 600 it didn't match or outpace was a zx6r b1h 636 (which I've since had 2 of...).
oh and it's more than fast enough to get you banned. twice. ____________________ || Past: 1991 Kawasaki ZXR 250 ~ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1999 Yamaha R1 ~ 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R J ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1998 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm ~ K1 GSXR 600 Track bike ~ K6 GSXR 1000 ~ 2006 Speed Triple 1050 || Current: 2005 R1 https://www.adrucore.co.uk |

Seems insane to pay £2k for a 2001 50k miles bike.
An extra £750 would get you this...

Seems insane to pay that for a 2005 when an equivalent 2008 recently went for less.
I apologise if olderer is betterer in ZX6Rs. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
