Sounds like there's a short in the electrics that's draining the battery overnight.
You'll want to use your shiny new multimeter to check for a drain. Although I'd disconnect the -ve terminal and insert the multimeter inline there, rather than risking shorting the +ve.
If it shows any current, then start pulling fuses or disconnecting pieces of the electrics - starter solenoid, indicator relay, CDI - one at a time to identify what's drawing the current.
No chance there's an alarm wired in there, is there? If so, then you'll want to perform this maintenance on it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks for this, going to give all of this a go tomorrow. Do you think this could also be the cause of the jerking motion while moving too?
Also, are the Indicators supposed to turn on while there is no power at all, the key isn't even in it.
Also, there is no alarm |

I wouldn't expect indicators to work if the ignition isn't on, thus I'd suggest pulling the indicator relay when you're doing the draw test.
However, if they come on solid rather than flashing, that may be a weird parking-light feature, so I wouldn't fret over it too much.
The jerking while riding sounds like a loose connection. God knows what your spanner money has done to it. Definitely check the main -ve to earth connection. However, the battery draining is likely to be a short, so I'd address that before chasing after other problems. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I recently bought a cheap Chinese bike from a friend for £250, |
1. A Chinese bike is only cheap if it cost less than a pint.
2. A Chinese bike with non working electrics is only cheap if you are paid to take it away.
So, could it be the cause of the jerky motion? Of course it could. Electrickery is funny stuff. You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen happen on ships that should be impossible due to fucked up circuitry. You need to sort that out first. As for your indicators, no. Nothing should work with the ignition switch off.
There, thats a good place to start you initiation into bike mechanics
Oh, and when you go to confession, tell the priest you bought a Chinese bike. 20 hail Marys and 50 self flagellation strokes should expunge the sin in the eyes of God. |
Are they really that bad? I'm guess so from some things I've read. I bought it without even checking anything online, which isn't really a great thing to do.
I will check out some of these things tomorrow and If I get nowhere, since it probably isn't worth spending money to fix, I'll probably just get rid of it and find a new bike.
Not really a great start to get myself into biking, haha.
Thanks for the help though! |

That's a particularly bad bike, I've never seen a happy owner (other than in the very short term) or a nice used example.
Let's not write this WK off just yet. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

It does look like speaker wire !! The garage you took it to, wasn't richer sounds was it?
Either fix it yourself, or get the garage to do it properly ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

I doubt Haynes make a manual so is there an owners forum where someone has got one?
Then you need to go through the wiring and find every bodge, work out what its for and then remove it. Then you re wire as per wiring diagram and THEN, and only then you start trouble shooting.
As you can see, it isn't a surprise a legit garage has said no to the work. You either do it yourself or cut your losses and sell it on, as is on ebay or gumtree. |
It's a Small bike, wiring on small bikes is a piece of piss, as there is so little of it and it is easy to access.
If you have seat, panels and tank off just open the headlight bowl and you can see all the wiring
Follow the current from the the positive side of the battery it will likely go to the headlight bowl which it will be the live feed for the ignition switch. If it has electric start it will got to the start relay first then a wire will go to the starter and another wire will go to the ignition. If the indicators are coming on with the ignition off, They must be being power between the battery and the ignition ____________________ Well, you know what they say.
