Hi,

I've looked through here and it seems there are some mixed feelings on GPS trackers. Has anyone recently purchased or heard of a decent tracker that can be used Europe wide?

Thanks!

Presuming you're going for a cheap one; it's the phone sim that should matter (think they use similar bands) - so 3 is worth a look.

Any countries not covered by free roaming, you'll have to consider data/phone charges vs how likely you are to get your bike back.

If I actually wanted my bike back, I wouldn't waste my time and money fitting anything other than Bike Trac.

If they don't offer coverage in the countries that you're actually interested in ("Europe" is a wide, wide place) then I can't imagine that you'll have much luck persuading the local BundesGendarmes to whistle up a warrant and start putting doors in, even if you talk VERY LOUDLY AND SLOWLY.

Yeah, there's no point cheaping out on something like this. Thanks for the BikeTrac recommendation. Authorities or not, I want to know where my bike is if some bugger nicks it.

It's probably worth knowing then that biketrac disables user tracking in the event of a theft. The last thing they need is some emotional loose cannon attempting to play hero in the middle of their recovery.

That's a pity!

I guess the question then is really how effective they are at working with the rozzers in getting it recovered quickly.

Supposedly very, fortunately I haven't had to use my biketrac service for recovery yet, but my understanding is their tracking technology is good enough to get the police onsite with a warrant in a short amount of time once they've located the bike. Believe last years recovery rate was 92%

Your profile says Norway? Is that where you're living at the moment?

Your name suggests saffa origin Very Happy

Thanks I'm definitely considering it. BikeTrac just got back to my query with regards to worldwide with:

"The device will track anywhere in the world where we have a GPRS signal to send the location back to our servers. Places like Iran and Mauritania are a few countries where we are unable to communicate in. Otherwise there is no issue. We do however only have links to National Police in UK and Europe."

Yeah, South African but made the mistake of going to Iceland on my travels and falling for a Norwegian girl. Now I'm resigned to living in the arctic! Why my plan is to ride my bike to Spain this year and leave it with family so I have a place to ride year round!

I have BikeTrac and it worked in Europe with no problems, if you go anywhere involving a ferry trip or train just make sure it doesnt get set off. Either check online or call them up otherwise they will start ringing you or your nominated person repeatedly until they find out whats happened.

Expensive kit but well worth it in my opinion Thumbs Up
