Does this mean officially ending the ACPO guidelines of 10% + 2mph margin for error? Will it be 2 points for 31mph in to 30, or even 6 points for 21mph in a 20 limit even though your speedo may say different?
Still unclear to me, are these proposals, as in may not happen or is it government speak for this is what we are going to do? ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

It all depends on how they apply it, which will probably be badly as usual.
It will then become an excuse for handing out £100 fines instead of £60. 40% increase in revenue for the government, can't be bad |

Will the likes of the AA/RAC be doing any investigation into how many more accidents will be caused by drivers looking at their speedo rather than the road/pedestrians. Thinking of rear end smashes, kids running into the road, cyclists wobbling, etc.
IMHO comes across as just another money earner for the government. It's already been proved many of the speed cameras are in the wrong places and do not actually cover accident blackspots. Looks like another bit of government spin to disguise the real reason by saying safety - which no-one can argue isn't a good idea - clever little government ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Whatever the arguements the politicians put forward you can be sure they've done their sums and reckon it will make them more money.
For starters, I believe we will see more fines where previously you'd have got away with it as the settings on cameras are altered to fire at lower speeds.
Of course, the whole thing is now getting extremely hypocritical as cameras are generating so much revenue that the powers that be don't want to discourage everyone from speeding as then their income would drop... ____________________ "It's all about dislocating expectation"

Agree with you all. Every bit of it.
I watched Alistair Darling on BBC24 this am give an interview to all this. And no decent questions posed by that limp wristed pratt Bill Turnbull. He may as well have asked him how his holiday went.
It's all about raising revenue.
Do you know, I often wondered what would happen when everybody sticks to the limits. Now we know. Lower the threshold.

| Mr Pants! wrote: | I do not want to start a political arguement here. But do you think that Labour is the most Anti Motorist government we have ever had in power???
Or is it just changing times and they happen to be in power making a load of cash out of us? |
The answer is probably no, but they have failed to recognise fundamental changes in society, including transportation issues. Whereas previous administrations did not have the moey to invest, this one has, however it has chosen to use the extra revenue for 'social issues' and more politically correct problems, as well as funding an arguably uneccesary war.
They have been inept at sorting all transportation issues - with the exception of funding Terminal 5 at Heathrow. Look at the railway system, the London Underground, the Channel Tunnel rail link, Cross Rail - all of them are either only beginning to get investment or were massively delayed or no decision has been made. The result has been congestion on the roads and delays for travellers and commuters. This has resulted in more people turning to motorbikes and scooters (PTW's - using Government terminology) the result being that there is no room for PTW's to park in urban areas, as the government has not instructed councils to make life easier for us!
So it is not anti-motorist, just incompetent at most things and the sooner it is ousted from power, the better! ____________________ Using a mobile phone while driving a car should be made a capital offence! |

McJam - I'd be different. Until I became power crazed and hungry for money that is. Hmmm, actually thinking about it I am already.
Just think of all those retest fees they'd get too. New rider only allowed 6 points, 15mph over the limit, sorry you're gone. Next. |
