I got one because for cheap commuting and it was something that had always apealed to me.
Found it was actually quite fun, so have gone for 'funner' bikes as I work a mile away from my house . |

I had a go on the back of McJam's bike and I think I was hooked pretty much straight away. After a few more goes as pillion I decided that I wanted a go for myself, so I booked my CBT to see how I'd get on. After that, I desparetely wanted my own bike, just to play with at weekends etc. And now I have my NSR . I'm hoping to do my theory before the end of this year, and my test next year, depending on if I'm ready.
My parents weren't that surprised when I bought my bike, and seemed to quite like it when I showed them. I'm not sure if I'll ever give up my car completely, but it's damn nice knowing I have spare transport if I need it! |

Same story as Robby, started on a ped and worked my way up!
I initially got the ped to get me too and from work and to friends etc, not pleasant times people laughed and now I laugh at them stuck in 5 miles of traffic on the local motorway .
I got this particular bike because my mum didn't want me to get the cheaper SRAD (although she hates me biking she'd rather I got the one she prefered the look of, go figure!).

Mate suggested it. Up 'till then I hadn't really thought about ever owning a bike, but the idea grabbed me as something that I really actually wanted to try. Got my CBT done and bought a 125, suddenly I had my own transport and a quite nifty toy to boot. It was a great adventure.
Besides, have you seen the cost of car insurance when you're 17 ____________________ 3516 Miles, 11 Countries |

Grew up with bikes; dad had a load, he only switched to a car when I came along as it was going to get cramped with mum on the pillion and my two sisters in the sidecar. He still kept a Bantam for commuting once he got the car though.
I've always been a minimalist at heart, and the simplicity of a bike appeals in a big way. I'm also keen on camping, and a bike suits the "getting away from it all" feeling, which you can't fully get in a car.
Then there's the commuting aspect; you can't beat a bike for A to B, and it would take quite a large incident to make a dent in your commute time.
Finally, there's nothing like a good blat to get rid of the mental cobwebs ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

My dad was a (and is again) a biker back when Norton and Triumph were still the big boys and always loved them. He introduced my mum to them. Then we moved and he sold both his and my mums. At 10, he taught me about bikes and how they worked and how to identify engine types and whatnot. Was hooked since then and only 12 years later did I realise that having some form of transport may be a good idea.
Whenever i drive a car i just feel bored. Even when i'm cold and wet I still love the feeling riding gives you. Plus, only takes me 2 minutes to get into town and park up instead of 20 in the car .
Plus, i was going through one of those "why am i in this situation at my age?/early mid-life crisis" moods and thought "hell, i've always wanted to ride a bike...lets do it" ____________________ Current Bikes: 2010 Triumph Sprint ST 1050

I wanted to be free...
My brother had a bike...always...I remember he had a dark red Kawasaki...big thing..I was about 8..he took me on the back..liked it !!
My Mum never let me on it again...
The next year he came off it...his helmet shattered...a piece stuck in the back of his skull...
My Mum made me swear never to get a bike...
She died when I was 12 years old...
and... I am sorry Mum...but I wanted the freedom to go where I wanted, and cars are not my thing !...
I need to be able to escape the house...the drudgery of stuff....
I thought of getting a bike...just one night..sat here...
YEAH !..I am gonna do my CBT.
Did it..hard work, yes...passed, yes....
bought bike...
Never looked back !
My test is probably in about a month..hope I pass....
but no biggie...
Then I want a 400/500 I think...restricted...
I love the freedom of my bike Blue Bettie....
I am not silly on it...I just take off whenever I feel like life is closing in on me...then it is just me..Bettie and the road...
I can do what I like...
