I just finished fitting all the bits from 2 carb rebuild kits to the carbs on my xs500. I put a vacuum on one side of the carbs but when I push the throttle arm the sides don't rise.

Do they have to be filled with fuel or does this test just not work on these carbs ?

(Keihin carbs) [/list]

If you have used pattern part kits for the rebuild your probably opening a can of worms.
I don't know the carbs ,but if they are C.V carbs the slides are lifted by air pressure when the engine is running

I was wondering if a bad seal between parts 97 and 98 would cause this ?

Do the slides lift easily by hand (finger)? A bent needle will impede motion. Also damaged diaphragm on a cv (I think)..

Attach a photo on bcf as your photobucket has run out.

How are you 'attaching' a vacuum?

Provided the diaphragms are not torn and are not perished, and the slides move with firm push of a finger, it should be fine.

Yea they move fine. (Steel diaphragms). I attached the vacuum the same on a spare set of carbs and they moved up and down normally.
