Charging system only works when i turn on headlight

Hi all.
First post...hoping you can get me out of a pickle here as its something probably sooooo simple but i cant find the answer anywhere.

I have a 1998 Yamaha neos yn50. It was a non runner to begin with but now its working. I have changed the stator (single phase, only 2 wires in the plug and 2 bullet connectors), new battery and R/R.

The problem i have is the charging system only works when the headlights are turned on manully with the switch.
The lights get brighter as i increase the revs as well...which i believe is normal. Could my stator be a dodgy one or am i over looking something really easy?

Some smaller bikes have two separate charging coils. one that works all the time and one that works only when the lights are on.

Its the charging all the time without the lights on im having trouble with, if mine has the 2 charging modes. I have checked all wiring...connections and light switch.
Could i be looking at a faulty new stator?
Or is it just the way the bike is?

Thanks mate will have a look at ignition wires etc...failing that it will make a good anchor

Hi all.
I have just changed stator and R/R again and still have same problem. The charging system only comes on when i manually turn lights on. I have checked wires and checked again. I dodnt think a 2 stroke could stress me out this much.
Does the battery (new) have to be a minimum voltage?
Could i be looking at an ignition switch problem, how do you test?
