Hello,

I intend to install a Motorcycle alarm with remote start and the user manual specify to check the bike polarity. I dont know if its a Positive polarity or Negative Polarity. any suggestions how i can check ?

It's negative earth...

Home fit alarms are a pain in the arse though, I give it a month till the 'my bike won't start' thread... Then the 'alarm for sale thread'

Hi,

this is the note shown in the manual

Note: Bike with Positive Starter connect RED wire to RED/WHITE wire (factory default)
Bike with Negative Starter connect GREEN wire to RED/WHITE wire
Most Yamaha Bikes are negative, all other bikes positive (check polarity)

the thing is that i cant figure it out how to check it.

Presumably you are insured third party, electrical fire and theft? If you need to ask such a basic question, should you be messing with it? Also, I think its an offence to leave an unnatended vehicle running, if not, it certainly is stupid. Even if it is chained up, some twat will try to ride it away. Not going to be that far away when you use the remote start? What's the point then?

At what point will you use it. It's of zero use and will break.

Snap your steering lock and remote start, bike gone. Start up and it's in gear, bike on floor.

There isn't a law about leaving an engine running...

Anyway, I've never come across a vehicle that was positive polarity.

Just assume negative unless the manual says positive. The worst that could happen is that you fry the alarm and end up with a flat battery.

Auld shite was Positive to Earth. Newer shite is Mostly if not exclusively Negative to Earth.

But you knew that. 😊

I hooked up the 6v battery to one of my Auld BSAs and sizzles the coil cause I connected Negative to Earth. The cable colours are not Red and Black like more modern stuff. So it was not my fault. Embarassed
