2003 Cbr600rr. I have no digital speedo or neutral light, the bike has been standing over winter. I was just woundering if anyone has had any similar problems? Or could point me in the right direction? I fitted some led front and rear markers over winter which I had to splice a relay into the indicator loom using a guide online but wouldn’t of thought that would of effected it? Cheers

First go and check the bulbs.

After checking the bulbs and fuses, go back over the alterations would've made. Double check everything that should be plugged in, is plugged in. What did you splice into exactly?
Electrical problem after playing the bike's wiring.. Would be a strange coincidence if not related.

Yes, I had similar problems with my VFR750 of a similar era.

On the VFR, all the wiring for the clocks is on a flexible PCB in the back of the clocks instead of being wired. After a while, corrosion of the tracks on the PCB starts to cause parts to fail one at a time.

I don't know if your bike has the same system but if it does, this is highly likely to be the cause of the problem.

If there are just a few failures (they are easily visible), it's possible to either solder or screw a wire in to bypass the corroded track. After a while, you land up either having to replace it (not sure if available as a seperate part, might be looking at replacing the whole clockset) or get stuck in and rewire the whole lot.

Here's the back of my VFR clocks. You can see the green wire bypassing one of the blown tracks. The track to the right of that wire is also "blown".

After a lot of head scratching and careful looking at the PCB tracks, I got it all rewired, took the time to replace the bulbs with LED ones too. My top tip is to use self-coloured LEDs (so a green one in the indicator slot etc), the blue/white ones are very bright. If I was doing it again, I'd take the bundle of wires along the bottom of the clocks and wrap them as a sub-loom and have them branching vertically to each terminal for neatness.

Wow thanks for the fast responses! I’ve just been out and had a quick look before I head off to work, I’ve pulled the n/s fairing off and checked fuses all ok, checked where I spliced into the wiring for the indicator relay all seems good.

Everything on the digital dash works, on start up it does its little check with the Rev counter and digital speedo reading, but stick it in gear and nothing.

I also noticed that the loom coming round the top of the n/s going to the clocks if you wiggle this the Rev counter drops off so possible loose connector there? Still...wiggle this section with it in gear (paddock stand wheel turning) and the speedo won’t flick on. Don’t won’t to strip it all down Crying or Very sad Very Happy

What did you splice into?
Not sure how helpful the answers to these questions will be;
1. when you indicate, does anything on the dash light up?
2. When in N do your indicators flash / light?

Sounds like you've spliced into something going to dash.

Small update:

Stripped a little more fairing off just now and Re-checked where I spliced into indicator loom, it’s fairly close to a loom plug. Wiggles this around and HEY PRESTO! I have neutral light! Bang it into gear and I have a speedo!

The plug is the main loom which runs up to the clocks, un-plugged had a look at the terminals and it’s completly furred up and green.

That will be the cause then! I had a quick go with some electrical cleaner and a small flat head but question is, how long will it last? Shall I bypass this plug with solder and some heat shrink????

plugs and sockets have always been a pain on bikes, You can use WD40 ,silicone grease or other inhibitors /water repellents
