I s'pose it's because they're accurately made. Tread compound is black and opaque. If they're very close to wearing through to the carcassing then there may only be a very small amount of rubber left over it concealing the carcass. You might not see worn areas easily if you're not looking for them, due to where the wheel comes to a rest. If there's no central groove you won't know how much rubber is left over the carcassing unlike on a car tyre (where the legal limits are also different). |
