Stuck oil filter cap after filter change

Just changed the oil and filter on by 600 bandit and the cap i used to tighten it back up has stuck onto the oil filter and I can't remove it.

Does anybody have any ideas how to remove it or is it ok just to leave it attached and save myself a few minutes on the next change (assuming it stays attached)?

Pic would help, not sure what you mean exactly but leaving it on sounds unwise.

Give it tap or two with a bit of wood or a rubber mallet if you have one. It'll just need a bit of straightening on the filter to release. Thumbs Up

he'd probably be safer to have used his cap to tighten it tbh, especially if it's twisted the end of the new filter.

OP stick an extender bar on it, then wiggle the extension to see if that releases.

Otherwise, loosen the oil filter trying to remove the tool, then tighten it back up with your hands.

Turn it back the other way to untwist whatever's happened and tap it off.

Next time, hand tighten only!

Unscrew the probably now fucked new filter and knock the removal tool off it with a hammer or similar. Throw away the new filter and hand-tighten another new, undamaged one.

Step back from the motorcycle.

Don't try to wiggle it off.
You might damage the filter (Or something else)

Take it to a bike shop.

Or if you want to DIY some more then buy a new filter for when the one you just fitted fails when you try to remove your 'CAP' (FFS, a cap.. Shocked

Yeah, how tight did you actually put it on? Hand tighten in fine, you're only sealing the rubber o-ring. You sometimes need the tool for removal because crud can stick it shut.

If you've managed to get the tool stuck on, I'd be worried you've twisted the filter and damaged it.
