 |
|
Just wondered what was the most embarrassing and/or unnecessary accessory you've seen, or fitted, on a bike?
This was inspired by two recent sightings, both on Goldwings (not the same one)
Cup holder - why?
Stabilising wheels - like an undercarriage, came down both sides of the rear wheel - looked like kiddies training wheels!
Any others out there? ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
Gibbs, what did Duckie look like when he was younger? |

To hold your cup?
Most spangly anodised crap strikes me as completely pointless. |

Hmmm, must be that CB500S I saw a few years ago, with everything anodised pink.
And I mean everything was pink, pink wheels, pink footrests, pink barends, pink screen, pink bolts etc, you get the idea! |

There's a difference between unnecessary and pointless though.
Though I'm sure you can argue that the point of the anodised crap is to look nice, it's a subjective thing.
Race can has a point - sounds nice, sometimes gives more power.
Double bubble has a point - keeps the wind off.
Crash mushrooms have a point - duh.
Suspension has a point (if you're good enough for it to matter).
To me, there will never be a point in replacing the silver bolts that hold your fuel cap in with blue ones. |

You could say then, theres no point really in painting your track bodywork when it's fine as it is.. painting it will only make it look better
I'm not a big fan of anodised stuff, the only things anodised on my bike are the valve caps - that's about as far as I'd like to go, with steering dampers then they are usualy anodised gold or silver though etc... I can see how that makes them pointless, but the same would still go for anything carbon or anything replaced "for the sake of it"...
I don't like motrax bolt ons, but some bolt on stuff can look really good, finishing touches etc, harris carbon etc is nice even if it doesn't hold a purpose.
If we wanted bikes that just had a point then we wouldn't have paint schemes, everything would be matt black, but that's not a worry because it's got a point to it ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Each to their own, obviously someone somewhere NEEDS a cupholder on their goldwing....
Personally I love shiny, spangly bits and would like as many of them as possible on my bike (although I draw the line at tassles!) but that's just my taste. I also love to see sleek, stripped-down streetfighters with barely room for a rider let alone an extraneous anodised bolt.
That's what I like about the whole custom-bike scene. You can make your bike totally individual to you, even if you do it by bolting on every nightmarish piece of chrome you can buy from the Custom Chrome catalogue til the damn thing is a traffic hazerd in daylight cos of the potential flashback.
Being the partner of someone who has just fitted a towbar to his VT500 (made out of an old car roofrack) to tow a home-made trailer (made out of a road sign) doesn't really help with my taste in accessories!
I'm showing my age again here aren't I? ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Best add-on I saw was in Newquay.. someone had attached a surfboard holder along their bike
If ever I live somewhere close to a decent surfing beach, I shall do that

Those bloody stick on ears/goatee's/ponytails.
I mean, fair enough for your kid's crash helmet but anyone else, jeez!
All IMO! I'm sure if you have them, you think they look neat....... |
