Hi All.
Can anyone shed any light (excuse the pun) on my headlight wiring query. I have bought an old kawasaki 125 eliminator which was a non runner and after a few nights in the shed it now fires into life. Lots more work left to do but my immediate issue is with the headlight not working. I have replaced some multi connectors as the wiring was not in great shape, but i have no power to the headlight. I have studied the wiring diagram but no voltages are shown and i cannot work out the route of the power supply to the lights. Can anyone help? Tks.

https://www.classiccycles.org/media//DIR_1653304/DIR_1667004/7b4ebf4db60cffe5ffff849bffffe417.pdf

The diagram for reference.

cursory glance shows:

Red/Yellow from dip beam to the dimmer switch. Then Blue Yellow to the headlamp on/off. Then red/blue to the connector then solid blue to the ignition switch.

Main Beam is Red white from dimmer switch to loom red/black.

Black yellow is ground, White is Battery Live (+).

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies so far, i will try and address questions/advice in one go. The bike is a bn125 a1 1999 12v. All the wiring advice makes sense to me so far and is correct on the bike. I am probably being stupid but the thing i do not get is exactly where the 12v supply is coming from. I originally thought it was simple and as... the white is live from battery and when ignition is turned on the blue becomes live to be my power. I did discard this however after taking the ignition apart, the switching worked but there was no power to the blue wire. I did not know if that means the wire becomes live only when running even though it is a 12v system. (can't run at the moment as exhaust needs fabrication). The city light does work on park i might add.

Can anyone advise if the blue wire should be live from ignition when switched on but not running?

Squinting at the diagram more closely, on the A1 model, the head and tail lights are fed from the regulator on a BL/Y wire which comes from the regulator so I guess the motor needs to be running.

Could you take a picture of the switchgear so we can check?

Thanks temeluchus. I will post images of the switchgear tomorrow as its past midnight here now. Can i just pick your brains in the meantime, ...the image on the wiring diagram shows a line between red and white at ignition in the park position. Does this mean red and white only are live in park position or all of white gray blue and red ? Tks again.

I've printed off a copy of the wiring diagram and will have a look at it in work today.

In the mean time, why not just connect a live wire from the battery to the headlight to check it works? It could just be a dodgy earth connection somewhere

I had a look at the diagram today and pretty much what Teme has said.

It looks like the dipped lights are on with the ignition as the brown/white wire connects to it, which then runs to the ignition (also to the tail light).

The red and white wires that you mention, red connects to the light circuit (brown/white to front, red to rear), the white goes from the ignition to the reg/rec and the starter relay, so there must be a park setting on your ignition barrel that lets you leave the side light and rear light on even with the key removed.

From the images you've posted, the only wires you really need to be checking are the red/yellow (lo) red/white (hi), blue/yellow is the earth. on the left handlebar switch and yellow and black on the right handlebar switch.... if any of that makes sense cause I've confused myself now Rolling Eyes
