Hi can anyone tell me how to split the forks on a yamaha trx850? Mainly the left hand leg I've done the right but the left one doesn't have the bolt in the bottom & I can't work out how to get the stanchion out cheers.

Looking at the exploded parts diagram not help you? There are 2 versions of fork leg depending on year, the bike might have one of each.

https://www.oemmotorparts.com/oem5.asp?M=Yamaha&T=TRX%20%20850&Y=1996&L=YA-TRX-850&O=FRONT%20FORK&F=YA-TRX-850_bd&L2=YA-TRX-850_bd

Checking in this manual shows they're similar to almost all RWU forks, there should be a bottom bolt, shine a torch in to check and hope, nay pray that it's not been rounded.

Mine has bolts in the bottom of both, how else would the damper rod be held in place?

Also the bush on the stanchion will have to knock the seal out before you can separate the stanchion and the leg, just keep whacking it until it comes to bits (if you haven't tried that already!).

on some yams and others, you need to fit a long hex drive down inside the fork to undo a threaded fastener that holds the forks together.....

nice one hong kong fweee for posting the oe manual will save that as it may come in useful sometime, as well as being an interesting read......see special tool section in the oe manual, the "T" bar and hex........and then look at the forks section.....
