hi guys, this is my first post here and i'm hoping you guys can solve my problem. I think it might be something to do with the carb but i'm not sure and I don't know how to clean it so before i do anything i'm gonna ask you lot Razz

OK, so heres the problem.
After warming the bike up i take it out for a spin and it will not rev over 9000rpm it coughs and stutters. I then (only once) took it out without warming it and this problem wasn't there. A friend i have spoken to suggested it could be the carb needing cleaning but i'm not sure how to do this. Any advice will be greatly appreicated. Thanks

Rob

Hi

First thing to try is a new spark plug. Give that a go and if that fails it is worth looking further.

How old is the RS125?

All the best

And make sure you get the right one! My NSR had the same problem when I first had it. It was because the previous owner had but a high performance plug in it.

Take the carb off, grab a notebook and pen and set aside a good few hours. Take the carb fuel filter off the side first and clean with petrol. Strip it down slowly taking lots of notes. Clean each part individually. When you just have the carb body left blast any drillings with good ole carb cleaner. Then get a bucket/sink of hot soapy water and clean the body of the carb, an old toothbrush may come in handy here, when your satisfied dry thoroughly and re-assemble it using your drawings. Have fag and/or cuppa (optional). Put back on the bike and check it over. Start her up, give yourself a pat on the back and grin at the great throttle response etc etc. If i don't work carbs prob worn-get a replacement one. Above all take your time and be safe petrol very flammable lol Smile

Hi

I did have ignition problems with my RS (a 1993 one) that meant it died at about 9500rpm, but it was never fine in that conditipn.

Spark plug is the most likely, and it should be a BR10EG plug.

Also worth cleaning the carb out. The filter in the carb is a bit of a pig to get out without damage on the 34mm carb you have,

All the best

Keith
