Is there anything I can use to seal my tank/ fuel tap .

The nut inside the tank rounded so I drilled it out and put a helicoil in. Problem is , like the dickhead I am I did it too big so now I've got a helicoil inside a helicoil .

Put the tap back on with a new seal kit etc but it leaks out of the bolt , quite bad as well .

Any ideas what I can do ?

Bit more of an idea what the setup is on your bike would be handy, there are a few ways of fitting fuel taps. Make and model would probably suffice so we can look at a fuel tap on ebay.

Did the original bolt go all the way through or was it a blind hole?

What size did it start as and what size is it now?

The answer is probably either JB weld or a solid rather than coiled thread insert (or a combination of the two) but it's possible something funky and simple could be achieved with o-rings or dowty washers depending on the setup.

You could try PTFE tape between the helicoil and tank and also between the helicoils. You could also look at changing the helicoils for a timesert insert if the wall thickness permits.

I have never seen such a set-up. Why not just replace the nut?

If the fuel is only leaking out past the head of the bolt, you could fit a dowty washer under the bolt head in place of the usual spring washer.

Or is it also leaking round the helicoil? Is the drilled out section now bigger than the area encompassed by the o-ring?

Hi stinkwheel I've just ordered some rubber washers for the bolt . There isn't any kind of washer on at all at the minute . It's leaking out threw the bolt so I assume it's getting around the thread.

I'll try some tpft tape and some rubber o rings/washers and see how it gets on
