Coming to Uk need bike advice

Arriving UK May next year. Wanting to buy bike before arrival, would like a buy and sell back option, Anyone know dealers who do this sort of thing? Can be anywhere in the Uk but prefer Southern England (ish) as probably flying into London. Don't want to spend a fortune,(around 2K pounds) so long as it goes well 600 cc plus, is comfy and has luggage or pack racks. Adventure or Adventure/tourer, dual purpose tyres (but I could sort that out over there) Needed for 3 months England, Ireland , Wales, Scotland and either Portugal and Spain or Sweden and Norway (will play the last bit as I go) Not interested in private seller, dealer only. Any information appreciated, thanks

Do you really need an adventure? A mate just picked up an awesome FJ1300 for under 2500 - a real mile-muncher.

You're going to need a UK address to register the car in your name. This address is usually the residence of the car's registered keeper, or a corporate entity that looks after it, but can be a "care of" address so that the DVLA can contact you about the car in terms of things like road fund licence ("tax") and to send the new V5C to. You'll need the V5C document, in your name, when you come to sell it again.

I don't think you'll find much for that price, particularly in the adventure class and from dealers. Might get s few things but not a lot. There's not a great deal of off roading to be had legally in much of the UK anyway but spain/Portugal is obviously different.

You'll find some road bikes easier for that price though.

eBay, gumtree and autotrader are the best places to look, or Google for individual dealers

Or approach your trip from a different perspective and get a back to basics bike (e.g. a 500 twin commuter type, or something similarly basic). You'd have enough spare cash to budget in some repairs and can go for the luxury noodles too.[/quote]

Might have too, bikes seem comparatively expensive over there.

Might want to check how you are going to handle insurance as I have been looking for short term cover for an international visitor without much luck

Insurance, yes could be an issue. Am sort of hoping the dealer will help with that !! Fingers crossed that with a Uk reg bike, British passport, a "care of " address etc some insurance company will take me on. Otherwise I will get a Uk resident to "own the bike" and have me as a named rider. If I can't get insurance I just won't come!! Still..I have 11 months to get it sorted so here's hoping

seems unlikely, given the varying volumes involved in each country.

In your position I'd buy wherever I could and resell on ebay - easiest and quickest way to get a realistic value - although you may have to wait 7-10 for the auction to complete, get paid etc.. maybe time you won't have...
.. unless you start the auction when still 'on tour..'
