Insurance for international traveller visiting UK

Probably a stupid question, but, I'll ask anyway.

Following on from this thread Fecking speeding ticket but... talking about lending a bike to someone and making sure they are insured and Coming to Uk need bike advice talking about all kinds of stuff except insurance.

What is the best way to get short term temporary cover for an individual visiting from a commonwealth country.

I've found a few places that do it for cars, but the bike insurers all seem to state the person must be a resident for x amount of time?

Has anyone managed to get short term cover 1-3 days for someone visiting from another country? Who from? and roughly how much?

This is to loan the bike to a family member, seems like a hassle and probably easier just to hire something?

Add them as a rider to your policy?

If that isn't an option, probably better for them to look for a hire option.
