Hi
On my way home on Friday Evening when my 2MG FZ stated losing power and running really roughly. Limped home and on Saturday I decided to check the carbs out as I felt it was a fueling issue. As soon as I removed the bank I heard a rattle and when I removed the float bowl cover I found this bit inside (see pic busted1) - there was just enough of the remaining bit protruding to allow me to use a engineering pick to rotate it and remove it. I decided to check the other three carbs and although all the others were intact I decided to remove them and check them - sure enough another one sheared off as I was cleaning it! I have a spare set of carbs so was able to replace the broken ones. OK I know that they are probably original to the bike (28 years) so I guess its just down to age related issues but wondered if anyone has had anything similar happen?
Also any ideas to replacement suppliers - eBay doesn't seem to have anything

Not sure, brass is pretty weak and if it was made with a crystalline structure, it could have fractured along the edges of two crystals.

For parts I suggest Allens Performance:

That is weird, doesn't look like a stressed part at all and brass should be pretty impervious to chemical damage. No witness marks on the flats implying overtightening either.

Second vote for Allens.

I wonder if there was some odd electrochemical thing going on. It's unusually close to the end of the stainless float pivot pin.

looks like a brass plated zink to me .

zink is very common in automative industry .

cheap very brittle and ugly , but usully its alumnuim plated zink to cover its nasty core

a machine shop can produce a better stanless steel or brass part .

i highly recommend getting a machine shop produced part if its a critical part to you , those guys take pride in there work better than a casted oem or worse aftermarket part

Looks like brass to me! Most cheap zinc alloys are usually silver to copper coloured - looks like brass throughout the shear.
