Hello friends and thank you for taking the time to look at my thread. I have a simple question to ask. I own a completely standard 2009 50cc piaggio typhoon which i use for work. The exhaust is a bit old and tired so i wish to replace it. But the exhausts that are showing as a pattern part replacement all look different. My one has this weird valve type thing attached where as the replacements do not. My question is this....What is this strange thing and can i do away with it should i replace the exhaust?

Similar to my My exhaust......

Replacement..

You will see in the pictures that my type exhaust has these weird pipes on it and the recommended replacement does not. Anyway any help greatly appreciated

It seems like some sort of a exhaust gas recirculation system. To make it green enough.

Sorcery.

Saucery would be ketchup, brown or hollandaise.

Mind you, I didn’t open your pics, so maybe it was a culinary question after all and now I just look like a spelling nazi-pedant.

Twice.

Perhaps he's in his cups (or under them)?

Yes. Depending on what I wanted to do with the machine if/when selling, and the cost of each different exhaust system, and whether a different nongreen exhaust system would mean adjustments would have to be made elsewhere, I might consider a nongreen exhaust. However, if the difference in price isn't too much, I'd get the standard green one. Edit: Std "green" one, OW!

Dunno why that second one is labelled 2-stroke as it's obviously a 4-stroke...

Anyhoo, the original has gas ports before and after the cat (the bulge) so not only are you dropping those you're also doing a cat delete! Note that the replacement is a free flowing exhaust so you might need to rejet... probably not if you stick with the factory airbox.

There's a new one on ebay ( https://www.ebay.ie/itm/EXHAUST-MUFFLER-is-a-new-item-from-a-2018-Piaggio-Typhoon-50cc-1A011527-/283478795783 ), and odds and ends like heat shields are available for a lot less. Perhaps, OP, yoiu could clean yours up, give it a spray of high-temperature black and leave it at that, if it's still actually serviceable?
