Got this guys 2010 YBR dropped off here by a recovery truck
last weekend after a total electrical failure.
He was riding through central Bristol when it suddenly stopped and
all lights went out.

Main fuse OK, power to red wire in 4 way connector in headlamp
and got power back on Brown when ignition switch turned on
Huh?
Started to check and fiddle with 4 way connector terminals as I'd fitted these
as he bought an aftermarket switch early this year.
They looked fine but noticed the power out on Brown was intermittent
further fiddling with red wire caused it to come off in my hand!.

Whipping out the ignition switch showed the solder joint had failed
on the pad under the switch
( removing the switch was easy as I'd had to cut the security bolts off
when changing the switch and I used cap head bolts when fitting the new one)

Dodgy soldering and poor strain relief perhaps? but as he was eager to get going again
I didn't get too forensic and just trimmed and resoldered the cable back on the pad
and gave it couple of new ties to hold it securely.
I removed the 2 unused cables while I was at it.
Those contacts were NC and open at power on when they should close and looking at the pic later
I wondered if the two brass pads above were NO and I could have used them.
However bikes running tickety boo again and he's happy.

Moral of this story:
If you buy a cheap after market YBR ignition switch
pop the end cap off and check the pad soldering and cable strain relief
before you fit it.
Also, check the lower contacts close at turn on ( NO)
If they dont, see if the brass pads can be used or just strap the
Black( or light green) and Black/White wire together at the connector.

A very useful post , a knowledge base there for others in the future.
And we used to complain about Lucas stuff. Lucas was described as 'The Prince of darkness' . Back then it was ( mainly) crap materials , now it's materials and workmanship.

To be fair, the switch itself is fine as a main power switch apart from some not having the secondary function which can easily be bypassed.
The problem was more assembly related and when you compare
£128 for an original lock set to £20 for an Ebay one its quite compelling
