Fzs600 Fazer lost drive

I'm cruising on the M25 when without warning I lose drive, as if the bikes gone into neutral. Gearshift feels ok, engine seems fine but no drive in any gear, no funny noises or behaviour beforehand. My first thought is maybe the front sprocket's come loose, anyone got any other ideas?

Fazers had a recall on front sprocket nut and washer iirc

Are the threads recoverable on the shaft?

At a glance the shaft thread looks okay. Last time the cover was off was a couple of years ago when the new chain/sprocket went on.

Especially this bit...............

Remove the existing nut and washer.
Measure the drive shaft OD of the threaded part (micrometer or vernier caliper).
If >= 17.5 mm -
clean threads and fit a new washer & nut with threadlock.
If < 17.5 mm -
the drive shaft must be replaced. (This work could take between 1 day to 2 weeks depending on dealer workload).

Although if there is enough thread to torque it up properly I wouldn't replace as there is nothing really to lose.

Standard nut is 9mm thickness, I believe these were replaced with 13mm ones?

I'd wang a thicker nut on with plenty of loctite if the threads are okay.

Otherwise I'd drill the shaft VERY carefully and use a bolt/ washer to hold it on. I had to do this on my last fazer and it was a horrible job.

May be a silly question, but is there enough threaded shaft length to drill and use a lock-wire? Or possibly drill through the nut and wire it through the holes in the sprocket?

Or you can buy a split die and recut the thread on the shaft, and have an undersize nut made up on a lathe. The real problem would be if the splines are damaged.

Easier still sell it and get a reliable bike, before the liners crack

Turned out the thread on the shaft is stripped, so it's new second hand bike time.
What's the best way to get rid of a bike like this? Breakers? I haven't the space to break it myself
