Absolute compression figures are not all that relevant. An increase in compression when oil is added to the bore is a bad sign.
Total loss of copmpression on one cylinder especially without some sort of fairly spectacular "event" might just be a tight tappet.
Have you looked at the top-end of either engine? Checked the plugs?
My 350 bullet lost all compression while doing 60. A quick check of the plug revealed it had suffered a catastrophic engine failure because the end of the plug was missing. A look down the hole with a torch told me what sort of failure had occurred (snapped valve). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen.
