Hi All,
Can anyone help with this issue:
Its a Peugeot Speedfight 3 2 stroke 50cc.

It is really slow pulling away. Eventually it picks up speed and is fine until you need to stop.

So far, it has had the following replaced:
Variator with 5g Rollers,
New clutch with blue springs
New Belt
Bew piston and cylinder
"Performance" exhaust
Rejetted for the items changed.

Any ides what else to try?

Does the engine seem to run properly?

If so, it might be something to do with the variator. Did it ride as it does now with the original variator? Not hard to restore it to standard & check.

Engine runs fine, air filter is clean. It did this before I changed everything. Would putting red springs and 6g rollers improve it?

Pissing about with springs and weights doesn't make as much of dramatic difference as people like to make out Smile

How bad is it? Bad enough that it might stall if you don't "nurse the throttle" ?

Basically we need to narrow down whether the issue is the engine not running properly or a transmission problem.

Changing variator rollers won't make any top speed difference but may affect acceleration, however if you've got the thing back together wrong it won't work properly, so as you say it runs properly and eventually gets up to speed my guess is assembly issue or roller weight issue. Could be some clutch issue I guess but I freely confess that's guesswork. Has it got the correct belt which is not slipping?

So since you got the thing it's always had "slow acceleration" but gets to the normal top speed eventually, and stopping repeats the process?

It revs but goes no where. It ticks over fine, its just hardly any drive Full throttle the engine is reving perfectly but the pull away is so slow? Once above 10/15mph its fine.

If it's running okay on the mid to high end of the rev range I think we can discount issues with fuelling, air intake and exhaust. That leaves a blocked or wrongly sized pilot jet, a blockage in the pilot circuit of the carb, idle and air screw adjustments.

On the transmission side if you had a loose belt that should be obvious from inspection. I take it you swapped out the small clutch springs. How about the main big one?

Other that I can only think of disassembling the whole CVT to make sure all the parts are moving freely. The old turd scooter I rebuilt had seized plates (effectively "stuck in bottom gear") stuck in "high gear" seems unlikely though Thinking

You need to get the fuelling near correct for the modifications before you attempt to try and set up the transmission and clutch. Also if its a cheap poorly designed exhaust system, then you might not be able to get it to run well without a flat spot before it gets into the power band.
