Annoying fairing buzz

My recently acquired 2010 FZ1 has what sounds like a buzzing noise coming somewhere from the front, only happens at about 4,500 rpm and only when moving, ie. it won't buzz if I rev it when at a standstill. It sounds more like plastic resonating than something mechanical. Ideas anyone? I don't fancy stripping off all the plastic and re-tightening everything this time of year.

see if you can find it by using a finger nail just touching different areas of the fairing , then tape a coin or weight in the area to change the frequency at which it resonates

So it only buzzes when you are moving and only at 4500 rpm.

Is the 4500 whichever gear you are in or only one gear. If it's every gear it's engine induced and only in one gear it's probably speed/rolling chassis induced.

Then you have to work out if it's a problem with what is inducing the vibration or with what is being induced.

It can get very annoying.

Loosen off the screws, wiggle it all about a bit, then tighten them again. It'll probably buzz at a different speed/revs.

Then realise it's the helmet strap/hoodie string.

It's going to be what you least expect. I thought my clutch basket had unscrewed and was rubbing on an outer casting - turned out to be a stripped (loose) bolt on the engine bash plate.

On the FZS1000, there are little foam dampers between the fairing and liner panels. As they age, they lose their damping ability, and you get all kinds of weird noises. Anything like that on the FZ1?

Had a similar thing on my old zx9r after an age trying to figure it out i cured it by putting thicker rubber washers on the mirror mounts,
turns out the fairing was rattling against the mirror bracket

You should be able to reach most plastics whilst riding to tell by touch if they are vibrating.

Remove individually the bits you cant reach and test til you find what was the offending article and find some way to damp it.

I had a similiar thing, thought engine was screwed. then one day was doing something and noticed where indicators was fitted there were 2 parts close to each other, plastic and metal, the rev frequency vibrated them together. so added a little tape to dampen it inside, now is quiet.
