Hi,

My bike has started producing alot (and I mean unhealthy amounts) of white, slightly blue smoke. It has never smoked this badly before and just suddenly started as I was riding through town. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Shaun.

My NSR was doing this after a long lay up, I've just swapped the spark plug, and it seems to have solved the problem... probably not the only answer, but hope it helps Very Happy

My ped did this. Things i did to it to make it smoke less:

Redex in fuel

Fresh decent 2 stoke oil

Shooted some carb cleaner down the intake tract

See how that goes, then ask Kickstart, because he gave me some good tips.

Here check out my previous post. Thumbs Up

Hi,

My bike has bust.

I think this must have been the reason for the smoke. I was told by one of my fathers friends that it could be one of two things causing the smoke.

1. That when I had recently changed oil brands they have not reacted well.

2. My crank shaft seal had gone.

Well I hoped that it was the first reason so I drained the oil and replaced it with fresh and also put some redex in the tank. It seemed to solve the problem as it was running as normal for about a week. As I was going home last night it started smoking again then the engine just died.

Now it will idle but every 4-5 seconds it seems not to fire and bog down slightly but after about 20-30 seconds it will just die.

So I am guessing it must be the crank shaft seal. Can anyone confirm this and tell me what would be involved in replacing/repairing it. Also I think the bike must be due a top end rebuild as it has covered 23000km and I don't think the previous owner had had one done. Can anyone give me an indication as to how much this would cost to have it done at a garage. Also how complex is the job as I have already spent a lot of money on the bike and of possible would like to see if I could do it myself.

Thanks,

Shaun.

It is more likely that the piston rings have gone, whip the top end off and have a look Thumbs Up

Hi

If the crank seal to the gearbox has gone then it is not likely to have much effect on the running of the engine (but it would use gearbox oil, resulting in a knackered gearbox eventually).

I would go along with mr jamez and suggest you check the piston and rings.

All the best

Keith

One of the cylinders on my bike does this at times. Changing sparkplug allways helps, but you should check the compression on it as farked piston rings is normally the cause of such problems.

Moniter the gear oil level. A buggered seal will cause the level to drop. Noting to serious as long as you keep the level topped up, however it might suddenly fail and you will have more serious problems. To replace the seal, you have to do a full engine strip.
