The 1st photo shows you precisely what bolt hole I'm referring to.
The 2nd photo is a duplicate of the 1st (without blur).
The bolt hole is 1 inch deep (24mm)

What's this bolt hole for (or what part does it bolt to the engine)?

It’s supposed to have a little bracket on it that holds the starter gear in place. (The big one behind the flywheel)

Pure guess but maybe for a crankcase splitter?

@Baldy this is exactly what a motorcycle mechanic also told me. But he said I do not need it, as it's not essential (some motorcycles of this sort were manufactured without this bracket).
The gear has a bit of space to move forward and backwards (without the bracket), but is held in place by the other components / parts.

I put the engine back together again (without the bracket) and it runs fine.

Thank you for all the help & replies!
