Sparks sometimes come from the screws holding the three wheels onto the microwave plate, to the floor of the microwave, when I'm warming something like flour for breadmaking. The wheels themselves appear a little greasy/grubby, could that be why? I am going to clean them and see if that helps.

I put a plate with gold edging in a microwave once. When I saw the sparks I realised what I'd done, won't do that again Smile

New microwave? old? coating come off something?
If you can't put metal in a microwave, why are they made of metal inside?

So many questions...

Each CD can be played once in your microwave and it will only play for a few seconds. Thumbs Up

I posted a pic of some mango slices in a bowl that someone put in. Ruined!

The microwave is about 10 years old. It's a Bifinett KH1167, which I see is still made as "Silvercrest" ( https://www.manualslib.com/manual/89759/Silvercrest-Microwave-Kh-1167.html?page=2#manual ).

The inside and outside is stainless steel, and the turntable's not bent or distorted, although some of the non-stick has come off a bit in the middle. The stainless screws holding the wheels on are tight.

It doesn't always spark. Just sometimes. Bzzzzt! and I open the door, can't see anything wrong.

No, but I have tried a light-bulb floating contacts-down in a glass of water.

A butter wrapper plays better than a CD. IMHO.

OP is your Google running in Lock-Down mode?

https://www.sos-parts.com/microwave-sparking.html

Either the wheels and plate support have some conductive material splodged over them or the track is worn through to bare metal.

The metal microwave ovens is made from is bent in shapes that don't collect the micro waves so do notnspark.
The mesh in the door window is a Far away Cage. Waves are dissipated.

It's most like "The roller ring has stains on it", but it has't got a roller ring, the plastic wheels are screwed direct to the bent lugs spot-welded onto the plate.

I'll give the wheels a bit of a clean.

Boring reply; microwaves rely on water content to heat things up; I imagine flour has a very low water content so maybe it struggles to deal with this? I find that if I use warm water my dough comes out at a good temperature even though our house is pretty chilly. If you’re really desperate could you warm flour in a saucepan over a very gentle heat and stir continuously? It wouldn’t burn and would warm through easily

Have you tried microwaving a single grape that is almost, but not completely cut in half then laid flat on the cut edges?

How very dare you, sir! I resemble that remark.

First time I tried a microwave oven was to cook scrambled egg... and the rest, as they say, writes itself!

You can put metal in a microwave quite safely as long as it doesn't have any pointy bits or narrow edges. It's these that cause the problems as they act as antennae and cause standing waves that can cause the magnetron to overheat. Put a ball bearing in and nothing's going to happen.

Exposed screws shouldn't cause a problem either - the manufacturers put them in there after all. If you're worried just put a bit of paint over them - but let it dry before you fire it up again. Wink

So what item in a kitchen would fit that description? A metal tray, a metal plate, a metal cup or bowl?

Virtually every microwave I've had has had something similar come with it.

That's my first combi one.

How does a microwave oven become 'metal friendly'. Are the microwaves different in some way? Purple rather than red?

Microwaves are outside the visible range of the EM spectrum, so no colour.

Much like 5G.....
