So. Can this be repaired? Second hand barrels cost a fortune.

Yes that's repairable, talk to these people.

Why does it need a 2 stroke expert?

Because it's a two stroke? I don't recall many four strokes damaging their exhaust ports by spitting out the ring pegs?

Damage to a cylinder is damage to a cylinder regardless of engine type. Pretty much the same method to fix anyway.

I wondered, looking at the port damage, whether it might need sleeving, but as said, they will say. From the website for reference:

"Piston or ring failure while the engine is operating often results in severe damage to the cylinder. A major advantage of using Apticote 2000 coating technology for treating aluminium engine cylinders is the ability to rework these damaged components. Our process will remove the existing coating, weld repair the damaged cylinder, recoat and finish hone to precisely match your new replacement piston"

Edit: Oh, no, it does look like coated alloy, I thought the metal looked different in the pic. "Cancel directive" Smile

I emailed Aptec and Langcourt. Aptec have not yet responded, but Langcourt said that it can be done and both barrels ca be returned to standard bore, so I assume both processes are similar.

However, neither seem to offer a head repair service from their respective websites (I haven't asked yet) so anyone got any ideas as to who I could get to do that?

You’ll need to get the chambers machined and then the barrels decked to reset the squish and chamber volume.
