So was about to go out on the Er6f, to have a little ride before some shopping.... I REALLY need to get out the house.
Anyway turn it on and...... nothing. not ridden it for about a week and a half.... But nothing not even a whimper....
Got the my tester out and the battery is reading 2.8v :/ the charger doesnt even want to trickle charge the thing. So deader than a really dead thing thats rotted away and turned to dust.
I dont want to be spending money.... but i just found a cheap battery...
https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/enduroline/ytx12-bs/
Any known horror stories on this battery? Probably a rebadge of some oem?
Anyone think it would do?
I noticed there was another er6f dead battery thread. And there was mention of maybe the rectifier was cooking the battery... Obviously at this stage I cant test that.
But wanted to be sure, when i get this battery and warm up the bike. What do i need to look for? the voltage on the battery terminal? if that goes over 14.5 v while running? ____________________ Yamaha FZ8/Fazer800 (split headlight one) 2014, gingerly getting used to the massive increase in HP and not killing myself in the process! You can sometimes "jump start" a battery charger. There is such a low voltage, it doesn't see there being a battery attached.
If you attach the charger to the battery then get another battery which has 12v, attach wires to it and touch them to the terminals, it might click the internal relay and start charging.
Be aware, it might just be totally dead and that they can gas like hell when you try to charge them so supervise it but I have recovered batteries that flat before using this method.
EDIT: I've even used a square 9v smoke-alarm battery to "jump start" a charger before. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

After all that, IF you find you still nbeed a battery, that looks good. I have had a few Enduroline ones before without problem.
I look at:
1) Guarantee. That's got a 2-year guarantee, the others have 1-year.
2) CCA. That one's 190A, others have less or a bit more (not price dependent), so that seems reasonable. |

Not a bad plan to see if it's holding the charge once recovered. They sometimes charge up but then slowly discharge over a few days.
Note down the resting voltage and check it every few hours to see if it's staying at a decent level.
I keep discharging batteries totally flat because I kill the engine on my bullet with the decompressor then forget to turn off the ignition. If it stops with the points closed, it discharges the battery. They usually recover but to a lower resting voltage each time. After 3 or 4 times, they start to really go downhill. Presumably because the plates sulphate. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Well that answers that then.... Battery died on me while I was out in town :/
So dead dead dead dead dead battery...
i started up fine and ran fine for the 5 mile trip in... did a little shopping and then got on the bike powered up, FI light flashed a moment and then dead.... nothing.
Tried bump starting it... but no hills here gave my self an asthma attack trying to push it... didnt work...
Had to get dad to come out with a jumper cable... he brought the trailer just in case.... and good thing to, the bike would start under the car battery but as soon as i took the jumpers off the bike died... Which worries me tbh. I thought even with a dead battery the engine should keep cycling under its own power?
So back home now with a stinking headache from being stuck out in the sun and being a little dehydrated... and cooked in bike boots
And now have to spend money I dont want to spend oh joy ____________________ Yamaha FZ8/Fazer800 (split headlight one) 2014, gingerly getting used to the massive increase in HP and not killing myself in the process! That was easy to get used to.
