Bleeding front brakes Suzuki B-King

Long story short, it was impossible to bleed my brakes by vacuum or manually unless I removed the brake lever. Apparently, the brake lever pre-loads the master cylinder piston in slightly at rest and there is no adjustment to back it off any. That was enough to not allow bleeding apparently. Got it all bleed and its working fine now but it has got me wondering if that's normal.

Is it normal for brake levers to slightly pre-load the master cylinder?
I always thought there should be a tiny air gap between the lever and the plunger when fully extended?

No it isn't normal and could have caused a serious accident. Probably a cheap after market lever.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you it happened to them.

Agree with sickpup this is not normal. Your master cylinder piston is not returning far enough to uncover the fill port and compensating port. Without a free and clear passage to the reservoir, the trapped brake fluid will heat up and expand in heavy use, causing the brake to drag and possibly lock. Shocked

You really should find and fix the cause of this abnormality.

Ok, thats what I thought. Whats very weird is its all stock, and it seems to work fine now so i'm not sure what to do lol. Levers looked fine, no weird wear on anything.

The only thing I can think of is someone rebuilt the master and the rod is too long?

Also my clutch is like that too... I didnt try to bleed it with lever on though.

I did buy a master cylinder kit for my fz where the connector rod was longer than the original and didnt fit so this is possible .
In that instance it was obviously too long so I just used the original.
