 |
|
Well that didn't last long, only had the thing a week and i've already broken it (well, i don't actually think it's anything i've done, but it is broken)
Long story short, took it out on Sunday, after about 10 mins fuel light came on, so found the nearest petrol station, filled up, paid, bike wouldn't start, it turned over and coughed, then next time it didn't even crank (almost as though battery was dead), so i pushed it into a spare parking space
Tried starting again, and it crancked and coughed, same again a few more times, then finally came to life on about the 5th try
Rode it carefully for the next 15 mins, without issue (slighly more noticable burbling and the odd popping on over-run)
It was only when i got home and took my helmet off that i noticed the slightly odd sound at tickover (video below)
https://youtu.be/ST3fNZZneH8
I don't think its the cam chain tensioner, as that is more metallic sounding (going off other youtube vids), i'm starting to think it has maybe jumped a tooth on the cam chain, possibly leading to some valve overlap, causing the chuffing sound (and possibly causing the more pronounced burbling on over-run)
I have it booked in at the local Triumph garage, but they can't even look at it for another 2 weeks (for a diagnostic), then another 2 weeks after that if it needs any work doing, looks like i won't be doing much more riding this year ____________________ Current Bike: Honda CG125 ES4 // Honda CB600FS Hornet // Triumph Street Triple R |

The thing is, it didngt start and it didn't start for a reason. Whether that reason is something little or something big you need to get it checked and whether that mens sticking it on the Triunmph computer or getting an old fashioned good mechanic, it needs to be done.
I'm presuming there is no engine warning/management light up on the dash.
I would get hold of the warranty company, get their permission to have the Triumph shop look at it then go back to Triumph and tell them the score with the warranty company. Once it's all agreed, leave it with them.
1) You won't be tempted to ride it.
2) If a mechanic has a quiet afternoon and your bikes there they could well checkit over early.
I know all dealerships are different but my Triumph dealer was spot with the way he treated customers.
I hope it gets sorted quicky, it's gutting when something happens like that and modern bikes are now so user unfriendly. |
That is pretty much the path i am taking, just the length of time it is going to take
And yes, i have already spoken to the warranty company, they are fine with me using any garage of my choosing, and i have spoken to the Triumph dealer and sent him over the warranty policy wording (as requested by them) so they will let me know if they are willing to work with the warranty company or not (can't see why they wouldn't, but you never know)
It just means i will be bikless for the next 4 (or more) weeks....... bugger ____________________ Current Bike: Honda CG125 ES4 // Honda CB600FS Hornet // Triumph Street Triple R |

There's loads of post , I havent read them all , but it's quite an unpleasant sound , almost like a bearing spinning in it's housing. I wonder if it's the fuel pump? Maybe it has picked up some shite , when it ran out of petrol? If it is a bearing somewhere, spinning that ain't good news. ____________________ All the above is my personal opinion, you can see my lips move, but I'm talking out of my arse.
I've been riding, and fixing , bikes for 50 years, in that time the more I learn, the less I am absolutely sure of..... |
