I've got a few helmets but they're all quite conventional. I'm in the mood for something more futuristic to go with watching the new series of The Expanse Laughing so, what's the most futuristic on the market at the moment?

The enduro style ones look pretty futuristic, can be a bit noisy on a road bike at higher speeds though.

The icon airflite looks good, but sizes are very different to other makes.

Is it wise to have these things which have angles and sticky out bits, rather than "round" ones? Surely they increase the possibility of catching on some surface in a crash, and therefore the probability of rotation?

I do have one with a peak it would just snap off, doesn't catch the wind much at legal speeds either.

I have no idea if there is any scientific basis for it???
However I’m convinced that that twice when I’ve had an ‘off’ when wearing a bash-hat with a peak it has softened the blow to my head!

Both times I had the ‘off’ , it was the peak that hit the ground first.
Both times the peak was fooked but my face survived.

On the road , I’m much happier wearing a full face bash-hat.

The peak stops an open face trying to lift off at anything over 65mph.

Mind you, isn't it all about prefectly round helmets these days to stop neck torquing?

Anyway, Roof lids are fairly funky, especially if you get a mirror visor.

For many years the recognised problem has been that if the helmet hits the road or some other thing and otates, the head inside rotates too, but the contents of the head (assuming.... Smile ) don't, which leads to severe injury in itself. People even 30 years or so ago used to think that fibreglass helmets were best, since the gel coat tends to sacrificially de-laminate, reducing the turning effect. There have since been developments with layers inside the helmet shell, whch are supposed to allow some rotation of the helmet without the head inside being rotated so much, but I don't know whether they're in use. Perhaps someone here does?

Years ago I looked for one of these, but they suddenly stopped being stocked. I wonder if that's because it was found that they weren't safe?

https://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/casques/uvex/uvex-species.jpg
It's a Uvex Species. Uvex make all sorts of safety clothing items, but it seems no longer make motorcycle helmets.

A friend of mine has an Icon Airflite which is pretty cool in some colours:

Very telling that if you go for >£300 helmets they mostly have the same (efficient) form with a few going for the retro "Barry Sheene" look.

You have to get to the midrange for anything dramatic:

And the bargain bins, Enduro gives you classic Master Chief vibes or there's "about to be throttled by Lord Vader" and budget spaceman:

It does look like the open face types are more futuristic, I wonder if that has anything to do with them being popular with the scooterati.

Ruroc have some pretty cool helmets, maybe not the most "futuristic" looking, but they have some cracking graphic options

I picked up an Atlas Mech a couple of week ago in the Black Friday sale, but i like the look of the Berserker too with the goggles

Another go at pointing out the Icon Airflite...

And the price? Only Elon Musk would fork that much out. By the way does anyone else think those SpaceX astronauts look like they got kitted out from the middle isle in Aldi?

TBH I get a "doing well robbing handbags with a stolen scooter" vibes from that helmet - entirely the wrong sort of menacing Sad

The Biltwell lane splitter is a cheaper option if the Bandit look is your thing. Many different visor and hardware colours
available for sensible money too. I have a matt bronze one with a mirrored visor, it looks great but is definitely a
summer lid, mega airflow through the uncloseable front vents.

I've always fancied one of these Reevu helmets with the built in mirror system. Not for looks but for practicality of being able to glance up and see who's behind.

Do you do that to every helmet you buy, because your name isn't Arai/Shoei/HJC/Shark etc?

Or would you do it to that helmet in particular because you don't understand the heritage?
