Unfortunately my frame has been polished and there is some surface pitting, if pitting is the right word. Can anyone recommend a method for removing this? Seems to be loads of products so not sure which to try.

Thanks

Rub it back to a matt lusture with green scotchbrite then laquer it and never have to worry about it again?

I might try something that. Polished front frame and swing arm is putting people off. It would be good to get it back to original. Is that possible with Scotchbright of some description?

Original is best even though polished would have been fashionable back in 1993.

I've seen people use it to return polished fork lowers and comstar wheels to a factory finish. Try it on an inconspicuious part first though.

+1 for Autosol. You might get a quicker result with a polishing mop on a power tool (be careful not to catch the frame with the tool).

Autosol only lasts so long then it needs to be repolished when the oxygen gets at it again.
I'd go scotchbrite or wire wool then add a satin laquer oxygen barrier
so it looks light but not blingy

Aluminininimumin polish consists of oilstwaxes and a more chunky abrasive media.
'Metal' polish such as Brasso will not cut the mustard when used on aluminium.

The oil/waxes in aluminium polish helps reduce oxidation (which happens instantaneously as the 'protective' oxidized surface is removed (with any surface imperfections).

The issue with aluminium is that it doesn't like paints. To get paint to adhere the surface must be acid-etched.
Lacquer is the gloss component of gloss paint without the pigments and background fillers.

It's a problem as old as the hills..

Polish and then re-polish every couple of months or lacquer then re-lacquer every couple of years - which is the biggest PITA?

I guess its the reason that nearly all alloy wheels these days are actually painted or powder coated. Lacquered ones even from the factory, only last a few years before corrosion creeps in.
