Hi

right i know where the oil and inline fuel filter is but is there any hidden such as tank filters behind the tap etc or near or in the carb that could affect the performance of fuel delivery??

Im getting real difficulty getting anywhere near 40mph out of it(top 42)but i have had to use a small amount of choke to even get off the line(which i shouldnt have to)but if i dont its guttless and trys to die with any throttle?

god its annoying!

just fitted a standard airfilter and its standard box back on after the last owner used it with an aftermarket filter and it was too noisy and made it vibrate too much!

please help:)

it throttles fine in neutral but engage a gear and pull away and its a struggle!!

and whats most annoying is that its been serviced to death bar any filters i dont know of...

Clean the carb, sounds like main jet could be blocked, since the idle jet works ok.

There is also a filter inside the fuel tank which is part of the fuel tap, but it's easy enough to check fuel flow Thumbs Up Make sure that with the inline filter fitted the fuel hose isnt twisted over itself!

cheers guys il check those and get back to you Smile

anything else you can think of let me know and il do them too.Smile

other than the issues the bike ran well even if it was at 40mph and 30 uphill(30ish) gotta check the tyre pressure of the rear later too as it felt weird and it actually made we aware of how much i was leaning:(

hint for anyone with a susuki gz marauder!
dont remove the standard airbox as its a pig to reconnect to the carb let alone get it back into its bay!...

(i didnt remove it,it was missing when i brought the bike)Sad

still atleast the bike is VERY shiny now:)

cheers all

Hi all

well after cleaning the tank filter and cleaning and checking the float chamber and replacing the fuel lines and a new spark plug and checking the fuel flow(which is debatably ok)

its still running like a sack of shit!

next is the round housing on the carb at the top and check and clean that jet and check the phram!!

if that fails i may have to remove the carb from the engine and airbox and reattach as the carb has play in it so im not convinced that its bolted onto the engine properly but having it running and spraying alittle damp start didnt increase the rpms so bugger knows

il get there!

the gz rides like a bag of shit anyway, i had a 2005 model and it would average 45mph/50mph if lucky, drops to 30/40 up hill.

You say you added the stock airbox etc back on... have you checked the jetting of the carb at all?

Running with no airbox/pod filters/anything other than original would require a rejet.

Yep i cleaned the bottom inlet in the float chamber and all fuel inlets but the top of carb where the main jet is has been half done as ive had to take the kids to some village event!

but il get back on it shortly and let you know if it helps as ive also got to reattach the airbox and carb as im removing the carb from its mount as its easier than trying to get at a screw thats hidden and id rather reattach the carb than dethread the screws to the carb Smile

long winded but atleast il know ive done everything by the end!

Find out the standard size jets for your bike.

Check carb and what jets it currently has.

back to the drawing board and now im going to put that aftermarket filter back and see what happens after that incase it has been rejetted as said on here..

im starting to think i was sold a lemon!

but im going to win sooner or later!

Hi mate

north of scotland right up in the sticks:)

Right! guess what ive just found out.....

Well i did all this to the bike and even brought a standard airbox and fitted it,which wasnt easy as its tight!!!
and out of curiousity and a mention of being rejetted i decided to install the aftermarket back on the bike and remove the standard (which was a $£%£%")

ive just clocked 54mph and NO hesitation and NO erratic idol!!!!!

it was VERY pokey and responded brilliantly!

Thanks to everyone for your help and this really is a forum full of good people that love bikes as i do!

I WON!!! oh yeah!!!!!

its like a differant bike.

Hi

Its kind of annoying, i dont like too much noise from my engines as im not one of these typical boyracers.

You know the type!they drive these girls cars round that they have added afew stickers too and afew other mods that make it look even more ridiculas!,then go and add an aftermarket filter and exhust that makes enough noise and vibration that you think your windows are going to vibrate to pieces and give you Tinnitus.

a car that sounds like its exhust has fallen off! and all that to a car that is usually a crappy clio or fiesta or something of that type which has usually got a stereo thats worth more than the car!

I wanted my bike to run as standard as the resale is better if you havnt messed with it!

But it does have its perks as there is a market for those kind of alterations! aslong as it doesnt affect the fuel consumption too badly then i can live with it as its not too noisy, and having one of these pod filters does add that extra vocal appearance of a bigger bike rather than a strangled whine!

But i do like my things standard as i know they wont affect things like MOT`S and emmissions tests plus having a bigger jet also affects its MPG.

But aslong as its done right and it isnt causing too much heat from running rich etc then its ok and aslong as its legal!

I did find gunk when i stripped the carb,it was in the main jet and look like jelly or white snot! but other than that it was pretty clean but cleaner now!Smile
also its now mounted better onto the engine in its rubber thing..

I took it for another spin before i took my little one to bed and its running really well and i cranked it right over on the accelerator and not a hint of power issues!

very happy with it now and all i have left is the taillight to sort out and the oil leak from the rocker housing and shes done!

anyone know what tranmission fluid these engines take and how much?(it might help the neutral issue and while im draining i might take a gander at the gearbox(selector workings)as these bikes wouldnt have been shipped with this issue so im guessing its something that crops up after extented use and COULD be renew`d?(maybe)but its not a high priority job so maybe oneday but changing the fluid is a deffinate just for the sake of it!

As said you need 10-40w oil, you need 850ml or 950ml if you're changing the filter as well.

The standard main jet is 102.5 so if you set the carb back to factory you will be able to run the standard airbox Thumbs Up

doing the same, refitting the airbox as it was removed by a bubba...

PITA job.
and as for the wiring, seems bubba had his way there too.
some broken wires been put together with noting but electrical tape lol.

steer was replaced by a small straight one , so will have to find out how to make new throtle and gas cables, also need almost every connector used in the wireboom..
hope to find out what types are used , probably ali will be best place to find
