PIAA make very good bulbs. Much better light from them without having to modifuckate anything.

I used them in a Yamahahaha Thunderfart and Trumpet Splints 955is and two BMW Panzervaggons.

Very better much than standard halogen bulbs.

Big claims for headlight relay kits here -

Quote:
An easy way to get a lot more light from your headlight. Adding relays will make any bulb put out it’s full intensity. Your headlight bulb’s Voltage drop after installing this kit will be a mere .1 Volt! (that’s point one Volt) You will be amazed at your stock bulb’s output! Even on a brand new bike you will notice an incredible difference in the headlight output.

The bloke seems to know his subject though, and although I’ve no experience of these the reg/rec wiring kit I bought was very high quality.

I’d have to ask whether the maxed-out bulb creates enough heat to damage surrounding plastics but it seems unlikely.

It looks to me like plug ‘n’ play. I think one end attaches to the battery terminals, then you unplug the headlight connector, plug the kit’s own connector into the bulb and the other connector into the loom plug.

I've used LED bulbs from https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk on several bikes now. They are very good with crisp beam pattern that passes the MOT in the standard reflectors, and my tester does put them on the beam pattern tester.

One thing to watch is if there's room for the heatsink beching the bulb. I think yours are an H7 so they do several versions. Bigger heatsink = better if you can fit it in there. Remote electronics pack also = better if you can find somewhere to put it.

I put their LEDs on mrs stinkwheels Honda Wave which has 35/35 bulbs and it took them from effectively useless in the dark to actually quite a decent headlight.

The LEDs are plug and play. You plug them into the bulb socket, fit the bulb in and they work. The ones with the remove electronics pack you do the same with (bulb socket plugs into the pack, bulb goes in the headlamp) the only additional thing is you cable tie the electronics pack somewhere. Or if you can't be arsed, buy an integrated one instead.

I think someone downgraded you. Even my 1988 FZ has 60/55W H4 in its 'Ford Cortina' headlight.

nope thats what the UK model comes with as standard. euro model has 55w bulbs but has 1 light for dipped beam and 1 for main. whereas the UK model has both headlights lit at the same time.

The relay idea has applied to cars in the past: run really chunky power all the way round, switch everywhere with relays and use signal wire from the switches. More energy efficient, reduction in copper, save the asthmatic kittens and all that. But of course it's gone too far now with individual CAN-bus modules for everything.

Anyhoo, on a bike? Where are the losses? A couple of switches and connectors... seems like a lot of hassle for a marginal gain Thinking

I suppose I’m just lucky there’s no ‘unhelpful’ rating.

Small switches with tiny shitty contacts that sit out in the weather carrying a relatively high load with the thinnest possible wire so it doesn't get in the way of handlebar movement.

And TBF something very easy to test with a multimeter with only my damnable procrastination preventing it from happening Laughing
