See post below about camper base..

So I did buy, without sufficient fore-thought, a 2012 Merc Sprinter based passenger ambulance which I've started stripping out so, far so good. BUT reality bites when you have to register and classify the darned thing.
At some point I'd like to 'down-plate' it as currently it has a GVW (aka revenue weight) of 3.88 tons which means a lower-rate VED
but (much) higher charges if stumble into clean air zone, and 60mph top speed and you have to have C1 licence (which I do cos old).
However before I do that I need to change the Taxation Class and Body Type (both of which are currentle 'Ambulance') . Internet warns that Campervan class is virtually impossible to achieve cos DVLA aren't playing nicely and so most end up as a PLG and 'Van with Windows'.
Has anyone done this? Is it just a case of changing the V5 and send off? The downplating I know is more involved and requires weighbridge certs..
Cheers chaps - 'you are my rock etc..' ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

The amberlance is already lined with a convenient wipe-clean surface ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

The Amberlance is now a 'Van with side windows..' but still registered at 3.88T and is apparently now a Private-HGV..
There is a 'downplating' excercise you can follow to reduce it to 3.5T but that may or may not require a DVSA VTG10 form..
Has anyne done this and lived to tell the tale? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000
