I'd suggest you probably just need to be more comfortable riding it at higher revs. A 600 Hornet is a screamer, in top gear on the twisties, you're probably nowhere near the power until you hit 90/100mph and even then, the bike would probably be quite happy in 4th.
I get this every time I jump on Mrs stinkwheels CBR6 because I'm used to a VFR. I keep thinking it's a bit flat and that I'm ragging it and having to dance on the gearshift until I look at the rev counter and realise I'm changing up at 5k rpm when it's barely off the idle circuit. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
