It's just trading on the name you struggle to see any styling cue that reminds you even slightly of the very striking original.

I don't think the Ford Fiesta looks anything like the original either. But that's different - time and gradual mutation and tweaks of design over each release has produced the variation we have in that model line name.

But agreed, calling a generic car, which hasn't really evolved from a specific line of model (??) - hasn't been around for decades - a Capri is silly. It's the complete opposit of what a capri was. Laughing
Just selling the name. Just as disapointing as Hellraiser 11.

To be fair, the roofline is reminiscent of the original; but that's it.

No, but the Fiesta has kept going continuously from the '70s to Current Day. And its raison d'être has remained constant - rollerskate shitbox for the poors - and each new generation is no dramatic design shift from the previous.

It takes a bit of care to carrying a name with a large time interval between models but it can be done well. For example, the Z900:

Then:

Now:
https://storage.kawasaki.eu/public/kawasaki.eu/en-EU/model/2021_Z900RS_GN1_STU.png

"Capri" should be saying hot coupé or maybe even roadster - something fun but ludicrous.

And that light aircraft-style rear side window.

It needs rear window louvres like my Uncle Laurie had on his purple Ford Capri back in the ‘70s. It was cool as…

I agree though, this modern thing doesn’t deserve the name.

Im sure that can be applied to other cars as well. Another ford fcukup, the electric Mustang. But then Ford has re used names over and over again and it's only people old enough to remember the Capri that will moan too much.

Dead ringer for the Capri ... it had wheels, body panels, paint, headlights etc as well Laughing

My dad had two of them, loved the look of them back then and now, that new piece of shit doesn't deserve the name!

I thin’ if you squash top to bottom it has a look of the Capri, hold you finger over the wheels and lower half and the top has a Capri shape like you say.

Still stupid to name an SUV after a coupe.

Sure, I just wanted to highlight the evolution vs. revolution aspects.

The Capri was basically an American looking Cortina with a V8 option
but still a 'Dagenham dustbin' not that any of the other makes of the time were much, if any better.
My Maxi 1750 was a better car imo,
I loved me old Maxi, a big comfy practical setee of a car it was.

I'd like one of coke bottle cortinas again we did have an estate version late 70s it was hideously unreliable but felt like a 'big' car at the time.
You seemed to waft about in it and quite practical had allsorts in the back and was good to sleep in for a weekend away.
If they could make cars almost replicating capri and cortina - even if they had to be electric Rolling Eyes they'd sell well.

When I was a Merchant Navy college a friend had a Mk1 Lotus Cortina. White with a green flash like the picture below. Lovely bit of kit but when he put his foot down and ragged it the fuel consumption was so ludicrous he swore you could watch the fuel gauge needle moving. Laughing

It didn't really matter then though, fuel was cheap as chips.
