250 on l plates

hi all quick question i first had my provisional licence in 81 so i can ride a 250cc on l plates comfirmed by dvla does anybody know off an insurance
company that will insure me struggling to find one..thanks

I don't think that's correct.

As far as I know, the 125cc learner legal law was retroactive. No Grandfather rights. After 1st of February 1983, provisional motorcycle license holders were only allowed to ride a 125. After December 1990 you also need a CBT.

So. If you have a provisional motorcycle licence, regardless of when it was issued, you are now only allowed to ride a learner legal 125cc bike and only if you also have a current CBT certificate.

I don't remember any time limit on my provisional M/C licence. I had it from moped status at 16 to 250 at 17 until I passed my bike test at 19. (being at sea was a pain forgetting teat time).

Also, if he had a full car licence at that time would the M/C provisional just carry on?

There's not a snowballs chance in hell of a legit way to ride a 250 without a full licence today..

.. just think of the 1000s of folk who had this type of licence when 17 in the early 80s and who never took a test. This would have come up before now. This potential loophole was closed in the 1983 as Stinkwheel correctly notes.

With the sidewinder (and any other sidecar) you could ride any cc bike on a provisional then. The 250 only applied to solo bikes.
